California Resources Corp The largest gas and oil production company, California Resources Corp., filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The energy group is suspected to be a victim of the crash in crude prices that have been influenced by the coronavirus pandemic. The company had been doing well to pay off the inherited debt from Occidental petroleum, but the coronavirus pandemic has since overturned their fortunes. The net debt was $6 billion, which could have possibly been paid off since crude oil traded above $100 by then. Over time the price fell, reaching a low of $30 at the end of 2015. Since the company balance sheet was designed to sell crude oil above $100, it has gone on to struggle for a while. They are seeking relief from $5 billion in debt and interest payments. In addition to this under restructuring, the company is expected to be provided with over $1 billion in debt-in possession financing to see it through. Restructuring under chapter 11 will see the company eliminating more than $5 billion in debt and equity interest. They…

Rainee Hodges’s Response: One of the first things I did as an adolescent was learning to drive. The bad part about this experience was that my father would not let me start out learning in an automatic vehicle; he made me learn to drive a standard vehicle first. He always said, “If you ever get stranded and a standard is all you have to get away; I want you to know how to use it.” Here I am in the middle of a cow pasture at twelve years old, trying to learn how a clutch and gear shift worked simultaneously, and why I could not just push the gas like any of the ATVs I had previously driven. I eventually had to realize that in order for the gear to catch and the car not to die, I had to gently remove my foot from the clutch while shifting gears. This was one of the most difficult things I believe I have ever attempted. Even today, the concept is slightly difficult because I drive an automatic now, and I do…
A liberal government According to the Enlightenment philosopher Montesquieu, a liberal government is borne when the legislative, judicial and executive powers are vested separately. Any branch or an individual manifesting all the three powers such as the French monarch Louis XIV becomes too powerful, leading to despotism. Life, as described by Thomas, is nasty, brutish, and short, and John Locke agreed with the earlier philosopher that society requires a social contract for peace to ensue. The social contract, drawn from the implied agreement principle of the English contract law, is an agreement among the people on the legitimacy of a government. According to Locke, however, this agreement is not only among the people but also between them and the sovereign. He argued that individual’s natural rights to liberty, property and life limit any government’s power; violation of these rights provides the people with leeway to revolt and form a new government that does not break the social contract. To protect these rights, Locke preferred a representative form of government with the legislature being the most powerful branch. Among the natural…

Discrimination at workplace Every person is entitled to work in an environment that is free from discrimination, harassment and bullying (Lewis et al., 2020). Bullying could be based on religion, age, race, gender, fairness and dignity. The common forms of harassment in workplace include; job refusal, isolation by co-workers, denial of transfers, promotions and training opportunities, not getting paid the same amount as other employees doing other jobs among others (Lewis et al., 2020). In the line of rendering my services to the company, we had a fatal accident, and I lost my sight. Occasionally, workers receive circulars about training opportunities that lead to promotions in my company. I sent my application form and got informed after that that the selection process involves face- to face interview as…
Personal Address Recipient Address Dear Sir or Madam, RE: A Request for Financial Aid due to the Covid-19 Adverse Impacts As the subject above refers, I am writing to request your consideration to include me in the financial aid scheme due to my declined financial income. I am a self-employed parent who owns a film production company and a medical beauty center in Hong Kong. The Coronavirus pandemic has adversely affected both of our businesses and led to a reduction in income. The pandemic has affected the film industry nationally and worldwide, leading to a closure of the majority of businesses in the sector. Although our company did not close down, the closure of other significant companies such as theaters has negatively affected our operations. The pandemic hit unexpectedly, and the theaters’ closure came when we were yet to release the previously completed film projects. Similarly, the closure of both China and Hong Kong cinemas left us with no alternative but to keep waiting with no substantial income. We have been patiently waiting for the situation to improve so that…
