Reply 1 Hello Parker, Thank you for posting an insightful and engaging post regarding how you utilize the assessment results to help students perform better. I agree with your approach of setting goals for gifted students to aim and strive harder regardless of their excellent capabilities of the state’s standardized tests. By setting goals for the gifted students, they work harder to attain them, enabling them to develop competency skills and improve their comprehension of the course material, motivating them to learn more (Keeley, 2015). I also support your idea of using formative assessment, whether simple or structured, as it is extremely beneficial to learners because you will understand the needs and tailor the next lesson to meet them (Wiliam & Leahy, 2016). Consequently, students’ learning experience is enhanced, encouraging them to further participate in the learning process. Further, utilizing formative assessment may help you improve students leaning by developing tasks that are more complex since your students are gifted. Please allow me to ask, do you experience any challenges using formative assessment? References Keeley, P. (2015). Science formative assessment, volume…

Daniel Elazar’s Exploring Federalism Book Review The world consists of many countries which have unique systems of government or governance that vary from others. The system of governance or a government of a country or a region is an important aspect of the society as the government is an organ that runs the activities of the country and determines the success and development in a country or a region. Daniel Elazar is one of the most popular contemporary scholars who employ systems of governments especially the American federalism[1]. Daniel Elazar wrote his book titled Exploring Federalism which gives a broad and expansive look at federalism as a major political principle or system. In the book, Daniel Elazar defines federalism as the need of people and polities to come together for a common purpose but they remain separate and preserve their respective integrities. Elazar says that federalism is the best political system to use when people want to achieve the most benefits out of the government as it is human nature. Through federalism, human beings or different branches of the government…
Micro-Aggressions Micro-aggression is subtle aggression against an individual who is different from the perpetrator regarding race, gender or other factors (Moore, Calvin & Beale 2015). It occurs due to stereotypes, bias and negative assumptions which limit one’s value and humanity. I recently witnessed micro-aggression at the workplace whereby my female teammate was ridiculed and demoralised by our male supervisor. Women often suffer micro-aggression at the workplace such as being sexualised by their male counterparts or being demeaned through suggesting they are unable to handle both motherhood and office duties (Moore et al. 2015). Since I was not the receiver of micro-aggression, I did not take the situation personally and offered the benefit of the doubt by not considering the receiving party as a victim. I also encouraged the individual who experienced micro-aggression to toughen out to establish the illusion of strength thus discouraging the aggressor from disempowering her. Since my cultural values encourage behaviours such as integrity, honesty and openness, I was able to apply ethical decision-making characteristics which prevented me from acting irrationally by quickly accusing the perpetrator. Therefore,…
COLLAPSE Top of Form Depression in adolescents is a disabling condition associated with long term mental and physical health issues. Screening is seen as one of the best ways to identify and improve depression management (Roseman et al., 2017). In the United States, 11.4% of adolescents have been diagnosed with depression annually and suicide was stated to be the 3rd leading cause of their death (Leslie et al., 2018). Depression is a commonly reoccurring, seriously impairing, mental problem and the World Health Organization grades major depressive problem as the fourth leading cause of mental disability (Kessler, 2012). Adolescent depression is a growing public health concern (Dihigo, 2015) and should be given a great consideration. Depression has both individual effects as well as economic and social consequences (De Jonge-Heesen et al., 2016). Adolescent depression causes later role transitions difficulties, including low educational accomplishments, high risk of adolescent childbearing, marital disturbances, poor health and unsteady employment (Kessle, 2012). HYPERTENSION Health issue Hypertension is a common health issue among the different populations in the united stated. 45% of the adults have hypertension with only 24% having their condition under control (Hajjar & Kotchen, 2015). According to the CDC 2019, hypertension is prevalent and more destructive among African Americans than any other racial group. African Americans are twice likely to have 4-5 cardiovascular risk factors, hence, there is a need to put greater attention to the management of blood pressure (CDC, 2019). A lot of speculations have been placed on different etiology and pathophysiology, but there are no unique causes that can explain the high prevalence in African Americans. The prevalence of obesity (51%), and salt sensitivity have been proposed to explain the rapid rise in hypertension in AA (Hekler et al., 2019). What poses a great concern among this group and a barrier to blood pressure control is adherence and compliance issues. To achieve excellent blood pressure control, an approach that integrates cultural, physiological, socioeconomic, and epidemiological differences should be utilized. I Opposition or advocacy of the Issue…
