Cervical cancer
Cervical cancer is a deadly disease which poses a threat to human well-being. One of the interventions for cervical cancer includes communication and education on the disease, prompting people to participate in screening prevention and treatment. With this in mind, we formed a group of six individuals for a health fair on cervical cancer screening and in which we worked as a team for a successful outcome. Communication was the backbone of our team. Every member of the group appreciated the role of effective communication. As a group, we adopted open communication through which members communicated honestly without withholding any information which was critical in ensuring that we hold a successful health fair. Moreover, effective communication was integral in helping every member understand their role and the role of everyone else; members realized what needed to be done and why it had to be done.
As a group, we ensured that we were organized and the tasks and roles were shared and distributed in a manner that promoted collaboration and group cohesiveness. Each member was tasked with research and compiling information on the intervention needs for the promotion of cancer screening and which were later discussed in a group meeting. This strategy ensured that all members were actively participating in the group work and had a better understanding of the topic under discussion. During our sessions, we held lengthy discussions on every member’s findings noting down the critical point to be incorporated in the final draft on cervical cancer screening. We adopted a rotational leadership style which a leader was selected in every meeting to lead and oversee the group activities. This helped in building team morale; members were motivated to perform and participate. The disappointment and feeling of biases which may be associated with have a specific team leader was averted by having rotational leadership, thus instilling a sense of trust and confidence in members. As a result, all members took a positive approach to their role and tasks which contributed to the success we had as a team. Health fair is a time and labor-intensive activity which needs adequate planning and collaboration; in this regard, we shared various activities among us to save on time and increase on cooperation and participation. One member was tasked with printing T-shirts for the health fair, two members were tasked with designing and printing the health fair leaflets, and the rest were responsible for availing any other material necessary for the health fair.
The group was a success and played a central role in impacting every member of the group with knowledge not only on cervical cancer screening but prevention and treatment as well. We at the end so knowledgeable on cervical cancer to the extent that the examiner was profoundly impressed with what we were able to achieve, awarding us 97 percent mark. Moreover, the information included on the leaflets and social media posts received commendation from the faculty members as well as the readers. The ultimate goal of the group was reached; information cervical cancer screening was passed.
