Childhood and adolescent development blog post
Childhood and adolescent development are two different aspects. When it comes to the first element which is childhood development, this refers to the sequence of physical, emotional, language, as well as thought changes that take place in a child, and this starts at birth to before the adolescent age. According to the world health organization, adolescent age ranges from 10-19 years (Berk, 2019). Therefore, childhood development takes place from the time the child is born to the age of 9. Adolescent development, on the other hand, is a period of transition that falls between childhood and adulthood. In this phase of life, people undergo changes that are similar to those in childhood development such as physical, mental and emotional changes with other additional changes such as personality and social development. The adolescent phase is known to be the most rapid phase in human growth. As mentioned earlier, the adolescent age bracket is between 10 and 19 years.
Conversely, it is important to study and understand childhood and adolescent development. One of the reasons for the importance of this is that one will be able to understand that which is normal and that which is not (Bergin, Bergin, Walker, Daniel, Fenton, & Subban, 2018). There are some behavioural changes that may occur in adolescents which a person may fail to understand. After familiarizing oneself with this, it becomes easier for such a person to understand and become aware of his or her environment. Therefore, the study and understanding of childhood and adolescent will help in instilling some sense to what happens as far as life changes is concerned.
The other importance of studying and understanding childhood and adolescent development is that one will be able to better understand how to interact with children. The latter stated group of persons may not have the capacity to fully express themselves. The understanding of the manner in which they grow will be instrumental in the course of interacting with them, especially during play times.
Last but not least, there are various current developmental issues that are evident in childhood and adulthood development. The main current development issues in childhood development is speech production. Children may not be able to generate words clearly as a result of their physiological makeup. Given this case, many households have adopted the use of cartoons as a way of helping them learn by imitating what such say. On the other hand, one of the major current issues in adolescent development is social media. There are many social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter that the adolescents have subscribed to. Such usage has exposed the users to some undesirable experience such as bullying (Slee, 2002). Besides, social media use has also played a role in lowering the self-esteem of the adolescents and this is common among women who tend to compare themselves with models featured on social media channels such as televisions. Besides that, social media use has affected the manner in which adolescents interact in that there are minimal face-to-face meetings.
