Christian Perspectives on Race and Intersectionality
Intersectionality involves a theoretical framework through which a person’s social and political aspects combine to form a basis of unique discrimination. Such elements include race, gender, sexuality, class, and religion. People look at such elements and decide how they treat people with particular characteristics. For example, the blacks for the longest time have been discriminated against the base on color. Most of them question the suffering that they have gone through since the days of slavery. Religion forms a foundation for most of this segregation.
A question that arises based on religion is whether Christianity if a religion of the blacks or the white. Some have even accused it of fabrication and the non-existence of God. However, this may not be very true. Some of the major revolutions in Christianity have been through blacks, such as Augustine. Historical references involve a significant influence of the Africans in Christianity, which does not lock them out of the church. It only depends on the neighborhood in which one lives, which will determine how they live with others. The issues of discrimination based on sexuality are based on the teachings of the scripture. The fact that Jesus did not discriminate against anyone indicated that Christianity is not a religion for anyone but all.
Through this, I have learned that all the issues that are used in discrimination, such as gender, race, sexuality, and religion, have been there ever seen. People would want to be superior to the other naturally and therefore end up discriminating. I have learned that one is superior to another, and we all have an equal opportunity.
