COACHING EXPERIENCE
Positive Coaching Experience
I love teaching, and thus, it’s quite important to get good feedback and compliment from a supervisor on my teaching skills and abilities. Fortunately, this year, I had the best experience. My supervisor was quite pleased with my teaching skill, especially how I engaged with student fostering a friendly environment for learning. Markedly, my supervisor kept on giving me good reviews and compliments. This made me more confident in my teaching skills, as I realized that I was on the right part. One of the most memorable experiences with my supervisor was when she approached me and told me that my teaching abilities were remarkable and that I would become a great teacher. Also, she stated that I have a great ability to interact with students getting them to participate constructively in the learning process. More so, she pointed out that most teachers have a great understanding of the subject they intend to teach, but most of them are unable to create a friendly learning environment for their students to learn and understand.
Negative Coaching Experiences
My worst experience with my supervisor occurred after I lost my temper with one of my students. The student kept on disrupting the class by asking irrelevant questions and making funny comments. Thus, the student managed to disrupt the learning process. Consequently, I decided to correct the student in front of the class, and I pointed out that his performance was poor than every else in class mostly because he keeps on asking irrelevant questions making stupid comments in class instead of listening. My supervisor was quite displeased with how I had handled the issue. Notably, she pointed out that as a teacher, I have to act in the best interest of the students, and even in the case of disagreement. Most depressing, that it was inappropriate for a teacher to get provoked by a student easily. More so, that it was wrong to talk about a student’s poor performance in front of the class and to call him stupid. This experience was the worse for me as I was quite displeased with myself and how I had handled the situation.
The positive experience with my supervisor led me to recognize my potential as a teacher. I acknowledged that I could create a good rapport with my students and that this was essential to the learning process. Separately, my negative experience reminded me that as a teacher, it’s necessary that I act in the circumstance in the best interest of the student.
