Code of Ethics
A code of ethics is essential since it leads to the relevant personnel adhering to ethical beliefs, company policies, and standards. As such, the code of ethics serves as a reference point for both employees and employers. Along this line, I would assess my profession’s ethical code as grounded on several long-standing core values: prudence, dignity, freedom, and altruism in a bid to promote participation, inclusion, and wellbeing for my clients.
While in the occupational therapy profession, ensuring that the welfare of my clients is observed and their health demands met. This is an aspect known as altruism that aids professionals to show concern and improve the overall health of the community. More importantly, as an expert, I observe the behavior of my clients thus offers the best practices that improve health. It is imperative to note that altruists reap numerous unexpected benefits for their dignity as they play their roles in improving health in the community. Self-esteem is important since occupational therapists must lead by example for their patients to follow. Patients who require therapy sessions often face confidence issues whereby they do not believe in themselves. Therefore, it is my responsibility to improve the mental state of my patients through professionalism. I am expected to be prudent in my profession and this involves using my clinical and ethical reasoning skills to offer a sound judgment while reflecting on the issues affecting my clients. The freedom to be prudent leads to the provision of accurate information in written and oral sessions with my clients. Through such ethical principles, I meet the demands of my diverse clients while maintaining professionalism.
To conclude, following these ethical codes provides the required foundation to provide professional occupational therapy sessions. As evidenced above, my profession demands I show concern for my client’s well-being as this is the first step of recovery. All in all, adhering to my profession’s ethical code and principles have led to success.
