Commercialized of autonomous vehicles in the United States

New technologies within the scope of communications and robotics have had a huge influence on the daily lifestyle, in which transportation is not exceptional. The new technologies have yielded the development of autonomous vehicles technology that focuses on reducing crashes, pollution, energy consumption, as well as congestion, and at the same time, increase accessibility of transport. The idea of driverless vehicles has been in existence for several decade, however, the exorbitant cost has been one of the common hindrance factors to large-scale production of these vehicle (Bizon et al., 2014). Nonetheless, with major research being directed into autonomous vehicles in the recent past, the realization of AVs is bound to happen. Therefore, as the American society foresees the commercial production of autonomous vehicles in the near future, its effects are already being anticipated. Once the AVs get commercialized in the United States, they be a game-changer solving some of the current flaws in the transport sector such as accidents and traffic jams. Also, it is anticipated that AVs will positively impact the disabled communities by providing driverless options, hence, enhancing mobility of people with disabilities.

I found out that autonomous vehicles will reduce the commuting time that people take in different societies across the United States. According to Mahmassani (2016), autonomous vehicles drive more efficiently as they are programmed to desired speeds in every travel from one point to the other. People usually tend to drive too fast at times, as well as too slow at other times, and even brake more often when it is not even necessary. As a result, these behaviours in driving eventually add up to an aggregate huge amount time that is wasted (Mahmassani, 2016). The AVs are projected to free-up humans from the mundane driving chores, in which they are alerted to take over the driving only in conditions that are most challenging. Therefore, people across different societies of the United States will be let to make a productive use of their time rather engaging in the driving activity. For instance, individuals can utilize the time of not driving while commuting to engage in other productive activities, relax, or use some entertainment.

Moreover, I found out that autonomous vehicles are expected to revolutionize the world and act as a game-changer in the America’s transport sector. According to Herman et al (2018), autonomous vehicles are anticipated to change the manner in which people travel across the United States. With the driverless busses already at testing stage, societies across the country are about to be introduced to a more efficient public transportation system, which is the autonomous busses that will be plying city routes in different parts of the US (Herrman et al., 2018). Considering that the AV technology entails eliminating the human errors commonly blamed for accidents, it is apparent that it will introduce a safer travelling option for most people. The current research on autonomous vehicles focuses more on delivering vehicles that are built on high precision to prevent accidents that are usually linked to the element of human error. Therefore, the entry of autonomous vehicles will drastically reduce the number of accidents happening on the roads across the United States. The idea of autonomous vehicle is projected to provide safe driving that aims at saving more lives that could be lost due to road carnage. The element of revolution in the AV technology is based on the efficiency that these cars will produce cause a massive shift in preference of mode of transport across the United States. In this regard, it is projected that the high levels of precision in efficiency of the AVs would likely prompt more people into using them for their transportation needs. Also, the safety features that are expected in these AVs by the time they are commercialized would be another catalyser to people’s preference in approving these type of vehicles (Wadhwa et al., 2017). Thus, the shift in preference from the conventional or ordinary vehicles into autonomous vehicles will be responsible for revolutionizing the America’s transportation sector.

The entry and commercialization of autonomous vehicles in the United States is projected to substantially reduce road carnage in the country. The AV technology focuses more on reducing the number of traffic accidents that have remained at alarming rates across America and beyond (Oliver, 2016). Road carnage in the United States is responsible for tens of thousands of death every year. Although there has been drastic decrease of traffic accidents and related death over the decades in the US, the figures are still at alarming high level. For instance, in 2016, about 37,460 people were reported to have died from traffic accidents in American roads (Taeihagh & Lim, 2019). This number can be viewed as a significant decrease from 60,000 deaths in traffic accidents that were recorded in 1970 (Taeihagh & Lim, 2019). Nonetheless, although there substantial reduction in number of death from traffic accidents in the US, the numbers being recorded in the recent years are still high and thus, the efforts by car manufacturers to trim down traffic accidents and related deaths. According to (Taeihagh & Lim (2019), research estimates that fully autonomous vehicles could lead to a reduction of traffic fatalities by more than 90 percent. The reduction of these traffic accidents is linked to the technologies main emphasis in eliminating the aspect of human error, which is responsible for the most traffic accidents across the United States.

In this research, I also found that the autonomous vehicles would have a positive impact on the people with disabilities across the United States. According to Hengstler et al (2016), autonomous vehicle will revolutionize how people with disabilities move within communities, as well as traveling far from their homes. In this regard, it is apparent that people who cannot see, or have physical or mental disabilities cannot drive safely as compared to other people in the society. Thus, for such people with disabilities, they mostly rely on others to get around. In this regard, the AV technology is enough to provide mobility solutions to people with disabilities and help them become more independent (Hengstler et al., 2016). There are also simultaneous advances in both artificial intelligence and machine learning that allow the AVs to understand spoken instructions, as well as observe the environment and communicate with the people. It is evident that these technologies work together to provide independent mobility coupled with practical assistance that focuses on the abilities and needs of practical assistance for each user. People with visual challenges are set to be among the biggest beneficiaries of the AV technology. According to Taeihagh & Lim (2019), advocates for the visually impaired have been engaging AV companies and legislators regarding the development of vehicles to ensure that they are able to drive independently. It is essential to note that has been impossible for the blind community to drive themselves independently with the ordinary cars, and thus, they usually need assistance when travelling from one point to the other. Therefore, it is anticipated that the AVs will allow people with visual impairment to drive independently, which would significantly increase their mobility. Furthermore, autonomous vehicles are projected to provide high levels of mobility and independence to all people with disabilities and provide them with a great experience with their lives.

In conclusion, the commercialized of autonomous vehicles in the United States will be a game-changer and would solve some of the current flaws in the transport sector such as accidents and traffic jams. Furthermore, autonomous vehicles will reduce the commuting time that people take in different societies across the United States. As discussed on the context, the AVs are projected to free-up humans from the mundane driving chores, in which they are alerted to take over the driving only in conditions that are most challenging. Moreover, autonomous vehicles are projected to revolutionize transportation and act as a game-changer in the America’s transport sector. Essentially, the autonomous vehicles technology emphasizes on the efficiency that these cars will produce to cause a massive shift in preference of mode of transportation in American societies. For instance, it is anticipated that the high levels of precision in efficiency of the autonomous vehicles would likely prompt more people into preferring to use them for their transportation needs. Also, the commercialization of autonomous vehicles in the United States is expected to yield substantial reduction of road carnage cases in the country. Lastly, it is projected that autonomous vehicles with benefit the disabled communities through provision of driverless options, which will enhance their mobility, and help them become more independent.
