Community Advocacy Agencies
Advocacy for older adults at the community level is important because it ensures that the older adults get the necessary support they might need depending on their conditions. One of the agencies that advocate for the older adults in my community is the National Center for Elder Abuse (Scharrer, Epstein-Lubow & Wiechers, 2020). The agency fights to reduce the incidences of elder abuse. The agency is actively involved in this fight through education to help in reducing further abuse of older adults. The American Society on Aging is yet another agency that provides advocacy services to elderly individuals in my community (Dixon, Laing & Valentine, 2020). The agency is focused on offering resources and education to older adults as well as the other members of the community for peaceful coexistence.
One of the new advocacy actions that I would suggest to the agencies is to focus on the healthcare service provision for older adults. Due to advanced age, most of them are at the risk of chronic conditions and need medical attention (Fullen, 2016). Additionally, pushing for policies that help in caring for and supporting the older adults in my community should be made a priority. Care and support is a fundamental need for the elderly in every society.
