Community in Practice
A Community in Practice is a group of elites brought together informally by subjection to a common discussion in pursuit of excellence professionally or joint problems. The group members are dependent on each other for the solution of each other’s problems. It is through this community of Practice that the management and IT teams can meet within their departments and even go ahead to reach beyond the company or organizational boundaries. Members in this community interrelate for a common goal of common Practice.
Importance of community in Practice and how they can impact the culture within an organization
The Community in Practice is vital in an IT organization since it helps members in solving problems within a department or the whole organization. Organizations have their culture of solving their problems and therefore through this the department that may be having challenges ave access to the best ways of solving their departmental issues especially when they are IT problems that need proper guidance. Van Aken and Berends (2018) confirms that field or community problem-solving decision generates a rich knowledge base of organization problem-solving.
It helps members to have confidence in making decisions in their department and therefore performs better due to the knowledge sharing got from the group. Langer (2018) in a Ravel case study in the textbook analyses the survey by stating that the isolation of a group can lead to marginalization. As a result of this, the organization will have selected people who can participate in decision making. It also helps the departments to adopt new strategies quickly, especially when there is a technological advancement that needs incorporation.
Community in Practice helps in keeping the organization workers 0up to date in the pending IT development so that they are always aware of the changes and adapt to them. It establishes a culture of oneness in ‘operations within departments.
