Community outreach relates to deliberate efforts that connect an organisation’s ideas to the general public. It takes the educational component that engages the community. Consequently, community outreach strategies are primarily linked to the organisation’s mission. Several organisations all over the world engage and hold thousands of young people all through the world. People of different ages with large numbers of youth are involved in the process of community service. There are several examples of community-based organisations. They include social service organisations, nonprofit providers and associations. The community outreach organisations engage both young people as well as adults as volunteers. Accordingly, outreach workers provide service and materials to individuals to reduce risks like HIV and to address social problems like drug abuse. Community-based outreach programs entail services performed for the benefit of the public. Besides, without community outreach, people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. This paper aims to discuss how community outreach helps communities. It also explores what will happen if we do not have community outreach in our area.
Community outreach helps to conduct awareness activities in society. It relates to the way we influence the individual units of the organisation by assisting the fortunate and marginalised persons in society. It includes approaches like community meetings training sessions with people street plays cultural activities among others. Though this mediums there could be a change in the attitude and behaviour of society. Furthermore, it involves many projects with a single goal. Some of the purposes of this community outreach program include helping the downtrodden, reaching the less fortunate in society (Turner, & Shifren, 2018).
Establishing care homes for the older adults, provision of financial aids for widows and victims of poverty and disability can create a supportive atmosphere for those who have no else to look for them. Again, extending hope and love to those in prison helps to restore faith in their goodness. They also realise that there someone still accepts them regardless of what they did in the past. The faith assures there future is tremendous and strength to persevere in their efforts to join the mainstream of life.
Due to globalisation informal agencies for instance family community have realised the explosiveness of the situation. Therefore, the different educational setup has played a vital role in sensitising young children towards social issues. These issues include global warming, corruption increasing population among others.
Participating in community service and outreach enables the students to become active members of their community and has a positive impact on society at large. Consequently, students acquire knowledge and life skills and most importantly providing need to those who need it. Several advantages are associated with participating in a community service program.
First and foremost, community outreach connects people with others thus impacting the community at large. The volunteers serve as a glue that holds the community together. Again, people interact effectively within the community to share information and materials. For instance in the city facing numerous problems like the health of the people the community outreach workers can share preventive measures. In the case of consuming fluoride in water which is harmful and can cause a debilitating effect in the human body. Through outreach programs, people may be aware of the consequences of excessive harmful of consuming this groundwater.
In summary, community outreach has several advantages to society at large. Consequently, community outreach helps to conduct awareness activities in society. It relates to the way we influence the individual units of the organisation by assisting the fortunate and marginalised persons in the community. The outreach activities target the less privileged, downtrodden and marginalised persons in the society. Through volunteering student acquire knowledge and skills that are important in their career prospects.
Similarly, community outreach brings people together and thus each person is considered important in that society. An excellent example of a community outreach that brings people together is race and social justice initiative for civil rights. This aims to end racism in the area and promotes multiculturalism. Besides, it encourages the enhancement of relationships and engagement, enriching knowledge gathering and embracing organisational change. Community outreach is a crucial component for HIV prevention programs, especially for drug users. The critique here is delivering services to the public through contact with people who are not connected with formal services. The outreach effectively penetrates the hidden marginalised communities, increase their scope of services and deliver information and services to a large number of people (Goldberg et al., 2015). Many scenarios will happen if we do not have community outreach programs in our area.
First and foremost, is that people would not receive services outside the traditional office setting. Thus there may be short delivery of information in society. Again, information and materials would not be spread throughout the community due to the lack of outreach workers.
