Courage
Courage is the ability of a person’s mind to face danger, difficulty or pain without any fear. As a leader, the trait of courage should be part of himself/ herself. Courageous leaders lead with principles which help them in awkward moments. Courageous leaders hold on what is right as they fear to fail. For leaders to display other traits, they should have courage; therefore, courage is an essential trait in leadership. This paper seeks to discuss the importance of characteristics of courage that a leader should portray in an organization.
- Does not hold back negative thoughts- it is essential to always focus on the positive thoughts of an organization as negative thoughts can make the rest of the staff less focus and affect plans.
- Speaks up in controversies-A leader should stand on his or her principle to portray their courage. Other traits are showing up when a leader speaks up in controversies, for instance, confidence as they defend what they have suggested.
- Does not fear to share views- Courageous leaders do not fear to share views as they are confident that they hold what is essential. It is essential as they portray leadership qualities of decision making and critical thinking and show that they are responsible for the organization.
- Is direct with others- As a leader, it is essential to approach a person directly on whatever issue and one can change from the worse attitude to the best, therefore, bring about better outcome in an organization.
- Can express countervailing views- It is essential for a leader to express opinions with equal force as the others but with different effect to show the courage of what they are holding.
- Does not shy away from noise- It is essential as it shows confidentiality and ready to tackle the issues with courage.
- Engages change directly- As a leader, it is essential to engage change directly as new options can bring better outcome in the organization. It shows courage as a leader is ready to take the organization into a better place.
