Most cities in large urban centers are at risk of crime attacks from a malicious group of persons with different reasons. To combat this kind of problem extensive urban city management continue to unravel various strategies in controlling crime. The growing cases of crime in the city alluded by the mayor is a trend that continues to wreak havoc while at the same time scuttle the economic gains realized by both residents and business people over the years. Firstly, the mayor should have policies that guide the police and the prosecuting agencies like courts laid down for public consumption. That way, they will be able to prosecute the process appropriately. And with the primary information at their disposal, they should be able to look for the offenders and bring them to book. The criminal courts should, therefore, take part in prosecuting their case. Secondly, courts should deploy evidence-based strategies in prosecuting the cases with zero influence of the witnesses. The criminal justice policymaking process could also use scientific information to prosecute cases of crime such as DNA.
In the case of murder and burglary, courts may request to carry out a DNA test, which improves the ability to identify and arrest the suspects. After that, provide evidence that supports the prosecution of the cases.
Thirdly, the mayor should consider putting up rehabilitation centers for the crime offenders besides securing living wage employment for the ex-offenders to reduce crime rates. As a correctional system, rehabilitation places such as prisons will play a significant role in educating them on the importance of value life besides keeping them away from the community since they would pose a considerable danger. Securing a job will help the returning prisoners remain free from crime and meet their demand for life without necessarily engaging in the vice. The mayor could also avail stable housing projects to the former prisoners and help reduce crime in the city and the community. This way, they will spend more time in the community as they cohabit with the community. Besides, the escalating crime in the city could be managed through the use of public surveillance cameras. In this regard, the major should ensure that the digital cameras are mounted in every corner of the city to spot any malicious actions. With the use of police, the crime offenders will be comprehended. I believe that once all the stakeholders implement these policies and strategies, there will be a significant drop in crime rates in the city. The control of crime rates will be pegged on these strategies.
