The coronavirus pandemic has affected most businesses in the world negatively. There is a considerable reduction in income to the majority of the population, thus affecting food distribution. Most households do their grocery shopping from the supermarkets, but small retailers have brought in considerable competition to deliver food to their customers majorly by using social media platforms. Import and distributions of food through various countries are still ongoing because these services are vital and cannot be paused and ignored. During the coronavirus pandemic, it has been noted that more natural and organic foods are distributed directly to the consumers easily and are healthier.
The writer clearly outlines the trends followed by the population in how they acquire food for their consumptions. Supermarkets were the significant beneficiaries taking about 98 percent of the total distribution, but the trend is changing slowly as small retailers become aggressive in selling their stock (Nicola et al., 2020). Various restaurants are closed, and thus these commodities cannot go to waste, and farmers have to supply food throughout the country on their own.
Delivery services are on the rise, especially during this pandemic struck time, as most people prefer deliveries of commodities to their doorsteps. The coronavirus scare has impacted all public transports and social interactions. The transportation of food and vital products has not been affected significantly. Borders are closed, but there requires a specific type of documents to enable movement in and out of various countries to transport essential commodities such as food, unlike what the author says.
Organic foods are indeed growing scarce, but the rise of interactions between the farmers and the consumers has led to customers getting fresh and healthy food. The author narrows down to pinpoint how the customers get their deliveries through Viber. However, the farmers face significant challenges in the packaging and transportation of their produce. The social interactions claimed to be achieved should not be celebrated since it is during these times that people have to adhere to social distancing measures.
Conclusion
Conclusively, it is a significant step for farmers to grow significantly in their areas of expertise and market their products efficiently. Even though there are numerous challenges such as logistics facing the farmers, the decline in supermarkets stores is favorable to improve the farmer’s welfare, and people’s health.
