Crusade for Justice
Crusade for Justice was written by Ida Wells, who is also the historical figure in the book. This piece of writing talks about the social injustices in a country and the practice of lynching that Ida is firmly against (Wells, 2020). The lynching practice that imperiled not only the lives of the black people but a nation embedded in the law. The book showed when Ida Wells began her activist’s career by campaigning against lynching that was a common practice during that time. For Ida, the practice had strong racial and sexuality connections and thus needed immediate squashing. Her crusades against the practice and percussive personality made her a hero. The central conflict in the book; therefore, arises between social ethics and the laws, Ida believes that it’s against humanity and ethics to lynch while the law protects lynching.
The book was written to the audience and people of that time, people who suffered in the hands of an inconsiderate government that subjected its people to harsh and inhuman lynching practices. The book has some relevance in today’s society. People would still buy this book as it remains relevant. Social injustices, racism, inequality, and gender bias are some of the books’ main themes that equally trouble contemporary society.
