cultural contributions
In the past, cultural contributions created by humans were an important aspect in society since they brought individual value based on the historical and social context. Each human cultural contribution had a different impact on the acknowledged culture and its practices. Notably, several cultural contributions that articulated the work of arts and enhanced humanities have been recognized. Among the major human cultural contributions include; the law code of Hammurabi, the Iliad, and Odyssey of Homer, ancient Greek Tragedies, and the Roman Colosseum. Importantly, each cultural practice focused on establishing a better social environment that supported human civilization.
Hammurabi wrote the law code of Hammurabi to the western society. Hammurabi wrote the laws on twelve stones and made them public for every to see and adhere to them. The Code of Hammurabi was created to establish a better and efficient governing of the empire, more so the ancient Mesopotamia. The codes were used as an approach of establishing justice to other cultures and were also a great influence on the laws initiated by the Hebrew scribes. The laws also addressed issues related to slavery, property inheritance in society, marriage, and commercial regulations. Secondly, the Iliad and Odyssey of Homer cultural contribution were examples of Greek literature poems that described the Trojan War. Iliad and Odyssey were believed to be oral legends attributed to Homer, the storyteller (Martin, pg. 8). The cultural contribution initiated major stories which became the Greek theater foundation. Plays performed during festivals at the theater emphasized the essence of honoring the Greek god to bring peace to society.
Subsequently, the Ancient Greek Tragedies were influential and popular dramatically plays mostly performed in the Greek theaters. Greek tragedies were highly embraced as a means of creating Greek comedy. Importantly, all genres were gathered together and created a foundation for the modern theatre (Mugelli, pg. 105). Relevant plays were performed regularly and preserved in the form of scripts to promote the mass publication. The state well kept classic scripts as official documents. Classic plays were also included important topics in the school curriculum. Lastly, the Roman Colosseum was believed to be the largest and most advanced amphitheater people had encountered in the ancient world. Still, in the present, the Roman Colosseum remains as an architectural site in history. The theater was built to create a place for society to benefit from entertainment services since Colosseum was located close to commercial and religious areas.
The Roman Colosseum contribution led to the greatest social and cultural impacts on human civilization. The large size of Colosseum attracted massive people to promote their cultural and historical practices through the plays performed in the building (Ventura et al. pg. 257). It is a theater where people gathered and enlightened themselves concerning social issues affecting them. Importantly, the most influential used to reach out to the Romans and share their ideas and opinions. The Colosseum was the foundation of many amphitheaters that were created in the Roman empire. Therefore, designing the architectural building was an excellent move of forming important symbols of the Roman culture.
The Roman Colosseum contributed to several achievements to the Roman culture. Firstly, the cultural contribution created a new architecture which included arches used in building impressive buildings (Galbo, pg. 291). The ancient Romans had an opportunity to harness their effort and make strong buildings used to hold social and cultural events in the empire. Secondly, the Colosseum made the Roman empire create and implement significant laws that protected each individual in society. Laws were a base for welfare in ancient Rome, making Rome the founder of social well-being programs such as the provision of education and subsidized food in society. Lastly, the Roman Colosseum led to the creation of new literature such as Aeneid, which was used to write Roman plays.
