Day of social justice
Social justice is defined as equal access to privileges, wealth, and all the available opportunities in society. It is honest relationships amongst the community and at a personal level. It helps people understand their rights and duties in acquiring the necessary facilities equally. During the day of social justice, I interviewed a student within a campus;
Questions:
- What is your understanding of social justice and the issues it deals with within an institution?
- Is social justice equally practiced on the campus and society at large?
- In areas where people are mistreated, which actions will you undertake to ensure they acquire justice?
- Does educating students and people in the community about the importance of social justice bring any impact on their lives?
Social psychological analysis
During the interaction with the student, I noticed that social justice is differently understood and requires more teachings. The student has experienced social injustice based on gender equality, where they have been denied access to education and instead granted to a male student. However, women in the community are secluded, where they are unable to acquire equal opportunities in decision making and leadership. I was mistreated like this student, where the boys were given priority in access to education.
Social justice is an important aspect which requires to be understood well by the entire community. It assists in identifying areas where it is practiced incontrally hence rectifying it or reporting to the necessary department. Gender inequality is among the social injustice mostly experienced by students on campus and has to be addressed keenly. As a result of this interview, my behavior will change where I will educate the community on the importance of social justice.
