Decision making
Our day to day lives is an accumulation of predetermined outcomes, which in this case we call them assumptions. These assumptions can be as broad as they can be. They can range from minute presumptions like “the sun will be up again tomorrow” to more intricate scenarios like “next month will be much like this month”. Precisely, it is justifiable to conclude that people subconsciously make hundreds of decision without consenting. About four years ago, I was made to apologize for stereotyping that women are a weaker sex. It was an assumption that stirred a heated confrontation from feminist groups as well as my colleagues. I introspected that we need to expand our understanding of strength to challenge our conception of the kind of strength we need in our current regime and also control our media parlance on sensitive matters concerning gender.
The attribute of an excellent manager is the ability to rationalize right decision at the exact right time even if the impending situation is much pressing. Regardless of the magnitude of the situation, decisions have the power to alter the dealings of an organization on a large scale. The importance of using various models in decision making is that it contributes to the implementation of efficient and high quality decisions which progressively eliminates instances of poor and uncertain decisions. Decision models often offers a step by step paradigm which involves familiarizing with the problem, analyzing it and providing possible alternative to each of them. A rational model for instance, offers a better way of breaking down intricate scenarios and then assessing all solutions regarding the problem. One disadvantage concerning the use of is that choosing a wrong model would result in execution of wrong decisions.
To improve the credibility of our decisions, we need to focus our experimentations on various factors. First, we need to define our question correctly in a way that qualifies or disqualifies our hypothesis. We then to set standards for our priorities. By deciding how to conduct our study, we get a chance to gauge any objections. Finally, we need to determine how we should determine the best way to arrive to our final decisions.
