Desire and courage to leave your mother’s house in search of freedom and responsibility

When my two brothers and I decided to move out of our mother’s house, we had hoped for limitless freedom and fun. We were thrilled that we would be on our own at last. We did not realize that the freedom we were anticipating would come at a high cost and lots of responsibilities. As little pigs, we were determined to make the best of our lives through adventure and exploring whatever happiness the world had to offer. Being the second born, I looked up to my elder brother while the last born knew we firmly had his back. Upon moving out, we had varied opinions on where to settle and the kind of house we would live in. Even though we had an admirable brotherly bond, our elder brother insisted we should split and built independent houses where everyone would have their own privacy and freedom.

The concept of building a house was new to the three of use, and thus everyone decided to use the available resource. My elder brother built his house using bricks, the young one used straw, while mine was constructed out of sticks. Although the house made out of straw was beautiful as a peacock, it was the most vulnerable when the wind blew. I considered my house a safe haven until the unthinkable happened.

One evening as the scorching sun disappeared in the red-hot horizon, a hungry wolf arrived at my younger brother’s doorstep and demanded to be let in. After he refused to welcome the wolf inside, it blew straw house destroying it. The house was turned into a haystack while the little pig was thrown to my doorstep following the force of the wolf’s thrust. He explained to me that the wolf had blown away the house with just one puff!

I took my young brother in my house and reassured him that the house was a steady rock, and the wolf did not stand a chance even with the mightiest of blows. In no time, the wolf was standing at my door, demanding to be let in. I was convinced that the house was strong enough to withstand the wolf’s puff. After inhaling deeply, it released a might whoosh that blew the house down, leaving behind piles of sticks.

For the past few days, my younger brother and I have been taking shelter in our big brother’s house, which the wolf was unable to bow down. Although the elder little pig has been hospitable and kind enough to let us stay in his home, we are looking to build our own impenetrable house. All this is in pursuit of personal freedom, where we will not be under anyone’s watch. Despite the desire to be free, I am afraid of the wolf and other enemies out there. What should I do?

The Second Little Pig

Dear Second Little Pig: Your desire and courage to leave your mother’s house in search of freedom and responsibility are commendable. As you have already realized, freedom comes with immense responsibilities and risks. I suppose you do not intend to leave in your brother’s house forever. I suggest that you learn from your brother’s bravery and intelligence in your next step of building your own home. Although building a brick house may prove costly and time-consuming, the results are even better. Encourage your younger brother to do the same, or use blocks in building his house. This way, you will never have to worry about the wolf or any other hostile.
