I followed dietary guidelines for Americans to prepare the three-day food diary. I considered the five fundamental guidelines to draft the food diary. The first guideline focuses on ensuring that people adopt healthy eating habits throughout their lives to avoid over and undernutrition, accomplish and maintain healthy body weight, and minimize the risk of chronic illnesses. The second guideline allows individuals to select foods with recommended nutrients and amounts from all food groups. The third guideline requires people to reduce the intake of sodium, saturated fats, and sugars in order to limit calorie intake. People are advised to avoid food and beverages with high levels of calories since this is unhealthy eating patterns.
The fourth guideline requires individuals to change from eating unhealthy foods and beverages to healthy food choices. The last guideline focuses on supporting and promoting healthy eating habits for each person in society. It is the responsibility of every person to encourage other people to adopt healthy eating strategies. I need to focus on minimizing the intake of sugary and cariogenic foods and beverages in order to improve my diet. These fermentable carbohydrates have been the leading cause of dental problems I experience. Therefore, I will shift from taking fermentable carbohydrates to foods and beverages with low sugar intakes to avoid the development of tooth cavities. The dietary guidelines for Americans recommend that people choose a diet that constitutes beverages and all food groups within the calorie limits. The diet diary I prepared was based on this recommendation, which aimed at achieving healthy eating habits. The recommendation further indicates that a healthy diet should include various types of vegetables, protein foods, fortified soy beverages, free fat dairy, and other fruits. My diet plan covered most of the items recommended in the dietary guidelines for Americans. Still, I did not incorporate a variety of vegetables in the diet diary from all subgroups of orange, red, and dark green vegetables.
