Discuss the two (2) sources of innovation classified as knowledge push and need pull. Provide an example of each classification and discuss two (2) driving factors that encouraged the development of these innovations.
Knowledge push in innovation is new knowledge or research suggests some new opportunities. Knowledge push has a systematic activity that includes a wide network of people sharing their ideas (Tidd & Bessant, 2018). Need pull is when an unfilled need is available and someone emerges with the idea to fill that need. Scientific research is a source of knowledge push and needs pull. For example, the camera has been designed with shutter and lens arrangement, back plate for film or plates, and focusing principles. Companies in the camera industry shared ideas and modified further with various lenses, flash technology, and motorized drives. Unexpected occurrences are another source of innovation as knowledge push and need pull (Bessant & Tidd, 2015). For instance, IBM was developed as the first modern accounting machine which was made to be used by banks but never showed interest. Computers were designed to be used for advanced scientific work but businesses such as banks started using them for an activity like to do payroll. Examples of knowledge push traditional media like television, radio, and magazines, most internet websites, libraries, advertisement, and databanks. Examples of knowledge pull are help desks, customized alerts search engines, and enterprises that provide research assistance services.
Select a type of innovation, discussed in the text, and present a strong argument why this source of innovation would be most effective in developing a competitive advantage for a specific company or industry of your choice. Be sure to explain in your response why you selected this innovation.
The type of innovation I would choose is to open a demand delivery system using drones with Gps to deliver food and medical supplies to customers (Kamberg, 2016). This type of delivery system would facilitate the competitive advantage of Netflix Company. This delivery system will help to deliver products to clients within a short time possible and without damage. Delivering system of using drones would improve the time management of both employees and customers. It increases efficiency for both employees and customers. Employees will have more time to see the regular operations of the Netflix Company. It also ensures customers receive a high quality of products.
