GERD or the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease is a digestive condition that occurs as a result of acidic stomach juices, or fluids and food back up to the oesophagus from the stomach (Herregods, Bredenoord, Smout, 2015). The condition can affect any person regardless of age. Asthmatic patients have a higher risk of suffering from GIRD. At least every individual has experienced GIRD reflux for it happens when a person burps acid taste or experiences a hurt burn. Nevertheless, the problem is only considered dangerous if it is affecting the standard functionality of an individual.

Clinical Manifestation

There are various symptoms associated with GERD. Among them are acid regurgitation, pain or difficulty when swallowing, excessive saliva, hoarseness, gums inflammation, bad breath, chest pain and cavities.

Diagnostic Studies

Several tests can be conducted to diagnose GERD. Among them is an X-ray on the upper section f the digestive system, endoscopy, ambulatory acid test and oesophagal impedance test (Herregods, Bredenoord, Smout, 2015). These tests are supposed to check the inner part of the oesophagus, monitor the level of acid in a person’s throat, as well as determine the substance movement in the oesophagus.

Treatment Modalities

Treating GERD problem can also help to reduce the symptoms of Asthma. Several lifestyle changes can reduce GERD symptom. Among them is weight reduction, quit smoking, elevating the bed head t about 7 inches and decreasing the intake of alcohol (Katz,  Gerson, & Vela, 2013). A person should also limit the level of meals. GERD problem can also be resolved by decreasing caffeine intake and avoiding theophylline where necessary. Medications such as H2 blockers and Proton pump inhibitors can help to relieve or reduce reflux symptoms (Katz,  Gerson, & Vela, 2013).
