What is Division?

The word division defines as the splitting of work or object in equal parts. Division operation is the opposite of multiplication operation. The symbol which is used for division operation is (/), (÷) and a line __. For example,9/3, 9 ÷ 3Here, 9 is the dividend and 3 is the divisor.

Now, let us take an example, there is 12 chocolate in the box and there are 6 friends. Now, how much chocolate each of them will get?

Therefore, one has to divide 12 chocolates with 6 friends. 12 ÷ 6è 2 chocolate.

What is Multiplication?

In mathematics, the word multiplications meanto add a number to itself several times. The multiplication operation provides an increased value of a multiplied number. For example – 10 multiplied by 4.

  • 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 èHere, 10 is multiplicand which is the number that is multiplied and 4 is the multiplier number.

One can perform multiplication operation with whole number, decimals and with fractions etc.For example: – Multiply of 5 with 31/2 = 5 + 5 + 5 + 2.5 (half of 5) è 17.5.
