Do you believe Carl is aware that he is a follower as well as the first shift supervisor?
Do you believe Carl is aware that he is a follower as well as the first shift supervisor? If you were the vice president(VP) of operations, how would you ensure that Carl understands what needs to be done to improve morale on the first shift?
Carl is aware that he is a follower as well as a supervisor. Carl shows that he is a follower by getting involved with Sally Onida. Sally who feels she earned the position that carl was given yet she wasn’t appointed as supervisor becomes less productive and lashes out. Carl takes it upon himself to follow up and even set up counseling sessions for Onida. The counseling sessions are to make Sally more productive and be a part of the team. Carl is a follower that enhances the role of the leadership.
As the vice president of operations I would first take carl through an induction process where I introduce him to those he is in charge of. There needs to be a friendly atmosphere in the workplace for people to be productive. I would also take him through the roles the last supervisor had and even set up a meeting between the two for information exchange. The last supervisor would pass on important information about the employees that worked under him and how he managed each individual. I as the VP would also give Carl the set target for every week so that Carl could come up with his own innovative ways of making the employees productive.
If you were the VP of finance, and you were aware that the company should hire a more diverse workforce at various levels of the organization, including the supervisory positions, what could you do in a short-term period of time to remedy the situation? What could you do in a long-term period of time?
Develop a plan for each.
For a short term period I would hire casual workers from other cultural diverse groups that are not included in the company. The casual laborers would do the little menial jobs that the company may have. For the supervisory positions, benchmarking and exchange programs could be included where supervisors from other companies could come in for a while and lead the teams. The exchange program would give the high management team a feel of how it would be with a culturally diverse group.
For a long term period, I would start hiring people from different cultural diverse groups that are not in the company including women. The hiring can only take place after the current employees have finished their contracts or rightfully terminated. There can also be making of casual laborers into permanent laborers since they would be more aware of the work environment.
If you were the CEO of the Jamson Manufacturing Company, how would you begin to create an atmosphere where all workers feel that they are accountable yet valued and appreciated in a way that supports organizational growth and excellence?
The first thing I would do I set up an induction training process when employing new staff. In Jamson, employees learn on the job what I expected of them. The training process would ensure quality over quantity and also make employees grow in terms of knowledge even when seeking out other jobs. The employees feel like the company is growing their career when there is training after some time.
If I were the CEO I would also put in place the open communication policy. This is where the whole company comes together to bring idea and set goals and policies together. The inclusion of employees in part of the decision making process make employee feel included and appreciated. The employees feel a personal responsibility to achieve the set goal since they are part of making the goal.
I would also make the employee eligible to earn the higher positions in the company if they are deemed as productive employees. In the case of Sally, he felt he had earned the role of being the supervisor after working productively for the company for fifteen years without any complaint. When the position want given to her ,her productivity experienced a down grade. The hange in productivity could have been heightened if she had gotten the position .Such rewards and incentives keep employees motivated to do better. The assurity of getting a better position with a better pay is enough to make employees very productive
