DQ: APA Ethical Guidelines
The article used during Bem’s assessment was “Basketball game as a psychology experiment. The teaching of Psychology”, by Polyson& Blick (1985). Although I concluded that the article did not qualify as an empirical journal article, the authors of the material tried to remain within the boundaries of APA ethical guidelines. The article continued intact to the first principle beneficence and Nonmaleficence because it did not reveal any case of causing harm to the clients. The rights of the client were protected. The fact that the article did not harm the clients is a clear indication that the second principle, fidelity, and responsibility holds (Allan & Love, 2010). Hence, the authors were responsible. Although the material does not bring out the element of justice, there is no case of injustice in the article. Therefore the third ethical principle holds. Respect for people’s rights and dignity are upheld. This is evident from the language that the authors chose and hence, remaining within the scope of the fourth boundary. The last principle, Integrity, can not be thoroughly talked about. The paper lacks the literature review and discussion sections, which can help tell the relevance of data collected about previously collected data in the same field.
