EDUCATED
The most controversial question is, what does be educated means. Nearly every person has his or her won perspective. Some think it is the grades they have achieved while others think of the academic papers they have accumulated. Education has become an essential part of everyday life to impart knowledge and convince students to leave the “real world” after school. Many great people in history claimed to be educated. But what does it mean to be educated? Education cannot be determined if someone is from an Ivy League school, has a 4.0 or standardized test medium. Education is not measurable; its either one is educated or not. Being educated means listening carefully, thinking critically, and exploring different perspectives.
An educated person is usually a listener. He or she yearns to learn more since he or she knows knowledge is not limited. A listener should listen carefully to each sentence, come up with an idea, think about it, and decide whether or not to believe it. When one hears someone talk, they often ask more questions than before. The more one learns the more one discovers that one knows nothing. By asking questions, one can better understand and consolidate what he or she is learning.
When one has a good idea, one needs to defend it. Many ideas are controversial and have strong arguments on both sides. This is why it is crucial to learn these ideas well so that one can develop their own view of these ideas and implement them consistently. However, one should avoid being too firm in their opinions and excluding the ideas of others. One must be humble and able to listen and evaluate other points of view. If, after an extended period, it is determined that the last view is more valid than the previous, then mistakes must be accepted and learned from. Many political figures are not up to date here.
Political parties are one of the main reasons why politicians are so persistent. Many politicians are controlled by their parties and do not make their own decisions. They advocate political ideas that correspond to their political parties and not just their thoughts. Those who strive to please the public often base their ideas on the pleasure of those who blame them, rather than working together. Once their ideas are known, they are usually never altered, so they are not easily considered or corrupted. For these reasons, one will never know if a political figure falsifies them and does not agree with their ideas, or if he is one of the rare people who say they believe.
The misunderstanding between knowledge and education is very common. There are many similarities, for one to claim that he or she is educated, one needs to make sure they deserve a degree. So, Georgetown college will help me have a different perspective about being educated. This is because their way of education is not the only book-oriented, but it has real-life experiences such as internship during the course program. One must be able to balance school life and the real job market. Political science is a field that needs a constant update, so one cannot claim to be educated if he or she does not accept challenges associated with the course.
