Educational technology
Introduction
Educational technology refers to the use of technology in school and Education, and it has both general and specialized meanings. Lay public and to a majority of educators prefer to use of computers and other electronic, hardware, and software. Moreover, a specialist in educational technology in a particular college and university with research and teaching courses prefers technology because it draws attention to the instructional technique. This term represents both a process and the device that teachers employ in their classroom. This paper will use two articles to determine whether there is a difference between net generation and non-net generation.
ARTICLE 1
This article consists of two phases. The first phase consists of a research project done on Digital learners in Higher Education. People have been making claims that there is a difference between net generation and non-net generation, but this phase concludes that there is no significant difference. This is because the students’ toolkit comprises both generalized and context precise uses and understandings of the affordances of technology. Students preferred to keep some technology use in the social domain, along with examples of technology use that, without difficulty, were transferred to and had a perceived worth in the educational perspective, according to Salaway et al. (2007). The second phase explores the reasons for phase one’s conclusion with the aim of enlightening and learning practices. To determine reasons, an investigation of the uses of ICTs in formal academic settings and outside the official teaching is done. The examination consists of three questions: First, whether postsecondary students can distinguish between social and educational uses of ICTs. Second, is the social impact that the utilization of ICTs has students on the postsecondary learning environment? Third, is the relationship between social and educational use of ICT in postsecondary education. The first question of social and educational implies a sociocultural orientation to the study; the impact is that it requires the use of theories or flame works that help to explain us In context. Third-generation activity theory is used (Egerstrom, 1987) as aflame work to examine more closely the nature of social and educational use, and the implications for teachings and learning. The relationship between the social and educational is provided by an AT. It provides the means of looking at both contexts and a way of examining how they intersect or collide. Students approach these practices within a range of separation to a desire for more integration; moreover, convenience, ease of use, and cost determined the selection of technology for common use. As expected phones use and texting was a predominant practice where smartphone uptake was limited. Three social and educational cases were used in a multi-case study embedded research design (yin,2009). The reason for doing the multi-case research is to examine how the program performs on a different environment, three main criteria for selecting cases in a multi-case study was listed. They include: First is relevant to the phenomenon being studied .Second is cases provided diversity across context. Third, good opportunity provided to learn about complexity and context. With this view maximum variation purposeful (Patton, 2002) for both cases and within –case sampling have been adopted. Hence the number of student and programs investigated may vary across the organization depending on the size of institution and available resources
ARTICLE 2
Deferent from the first article which explained that there is no difference between net generation and non-net generation but in this article it state some difference between the two. This article explains that there is a difference between the two where by the shape of higher education is internationally changing with wider access polices leading to greater variety in modern student population worldwide, Hence this leads to the student of the 21st century which is often defined as split. This mean they are regularly working at the same time as participating in a full time degree programmed. While those in HE setting are required to become future ready which involves use of new digital technology in the under graduated programs of teaching and learning .In this article, it was confirmed that net generation was supported by student due to the presence study evaluated the effectiveness of the use of internet as suitable technology to enhance learning (TEL) tools to support the initial preliminary stages of transition from school. The result demonstrate that net generation fit for purpose in terms of the robustness of both the educational and technical designs features and also support the growth of critical thinking. However it keeps the current literature in the field and expresses the student to wish for more training in the functional and social skill required .The conclusion was that by use of net generation one is able to express a wish to train more in the functional skills and read the world more effectively. However technology has also made the education to change internationally and the growth of student population worldwide where they have been working while in full time degree programmed
