Effects of delaying binge drinking on adolescent brain development
The article “Effects of delaying binge drinking on adolescent brain development” is a longitudinal neuroimaging study that addresses the issue of early stages intake of alcohol among teens. The article indicates that early use of alcohol, especially for children aged 14 years to 21 years, predicts their future us of drugs and alcohol (Bourque et al. 2016). The youths’ behavior affects the development of the brain since it is at that time that one experiences growth and development based on the discovery and learning practices. The researcher wanted to determine whether the use of alcohol among the teens causes pre-existing problems in predisposition, disturbs the neuro-maturational process, and leads to global neural atrophy. As such, one hundred and twenty youths and high risk of alcohol abuse and thirty youth under low alcohol use were used in the research to enhance findings.
The researchers conducted investigations using the sample to answer the study questions. The methods applied in the study were critical since they enhanced quality findings to ensure that the questions were answered appropriately. During the study, some of the considered factors were behavior assessment among the participants (Bourque et al. 2016). The method enabled the researcher to find how youth behavior changes with continued use of alcohol from an early age. Another element of consideration was brain development among the youths addicted to alcohol and those that do not use it. The applied method facilitated the understanding since the participants had a relatively similar environment and thus, any dysfunction (Bourque et al. 2016). The behavior of alcohol abuse among youths is associated with family history and disinhibited psychopathology. As such, the kids lack the self-control to avoid alcohol, leading to abuse at early stages of life. The behavior comes with many effects, as seen in many findings by different researchers. It is essential to look at the interests of children and help them avoid such habits for better mental health.
