EFFECTS OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Nowadays, the whole world has seen changes from an analog approach of running businesses, institutions, and industries where information was passed through natural signs to a digital approach where almost all activities globally, sophisticated information tools are used to fasten the way activities are managed and operated. In this paper, we are therefore going to look at the effects of information technology.
Information technology can be defined as any activity that makes use of a system in order to keep, process and passing that information to relevant authorities (Siska, 2019). Today information technology is widely used everywhere in places like government and private hospitals, offices, institutions, transport, trade, security, agriculture and even in weather forecasting departments.
There are a number of effects of Information technolgy in different sectors in our society which makes the main epecentre of this paper (Wong & Dow, n.d). The use of computers to operate machines speeds up effective instructions on how raw materials are converted easily to finished products which in return plays a big role in sustainabilty of demand and supply in our global markets.
Information technolgy enables firms to produce quality products which are capable of satisfying the market demands and supplies in both local and international markets. With quality products, firms are able to remain relevant in production and can encroach to any market with quality of finished products. On the other hand the quantity of products depends on the level of information technolgy in a production process that various firms are capable of using during production.
Proper communication channels employed by different production sectors greatly influences high production outputs. In any work place there should be proper communacation channels that are cable of issuing out accurate commands of whatever activity that should be carried out. Therefore timely information increases efficiency of quality and quantity of goods and services.
Education system has become so productive bacause of information technology. Learners are now acquiring skills through the use computers, laptops and other digital platforms. Assigments are easily carried out by the learners and problems can be researched through the use of such devices and immediate solutions are given out to the learners at their right time.
Information technology has also improved medical services in our hospital facilities where patients are attended through the use sosphisicated machines. Patients of cancer, diabetics and fatal accidents are now properly given timely medical care by the use technology at a very fast speed. Information technology has assisted in lengthening of life of most patients since the information system avails efficient and reliable information that enables the medics to make quick decisions.
In exercising the above effects of information technology, there are number of impacts that it creates in our society such as economical, political and social impacts (Ito, 1990). Economical impact tends to exert pressure on capital requirements to sustain the growing needs of technological innovation, pressure on producing goods and services inorder to sustain market demands and pressure from competition in trying to attain power in market controls. Economical impact acts as an indicator in alerting firms in changing to changes that makes one to remain competitive in the entire market.
On the other hand, political impact deals with powers and influences on who controls the say of polical landscape in information technology (Coates, 1983). Countries have remained in their political backyards in controlling the views and images of its citizens through social media platforms that is now commonly used to rate their political power houses.
Finally is the social impact of information technology that has been shaped from physical contacts of people in the past when passing information to the current digital media contacts where a huge population of people are able to share and interact daily through facebook, twitter, yu tube and even whatsapp medias.
In conclusion information technology has become one of the basic requirement in all sectors of life. It has changed people in the manner they live and infact the way they think. These changes may have positive or negative effects to information technology depending on their application to life. The larger positive changes have been highlighted and associated to increased efficiency in quality of goods and services whereas the negative changes like hacking of information in social media may be seen to be detrimental to most firms globally.
