Eliminating the barriers and adopting an open policy, the United States stands to benefit economically from the labor input that foreigners will bring. Wealth creation is important for a competing country such as the U.S. The rule behind China’s prosperity is the utilization of massive labor at their disposal. The current immigration laws put a stagnation to economic development. Wealth creation also will benefit the immigrants enabling economic expertise flow out to such countries rather than sending billions of dollars annually. Despite the ability of immigrants to provide the much-needed low-skilled labor, critics of opening borders can claim that it would lead to the loss of jobs by Americans. According to critics, the current employment crisis suffices a disclaimer for rejecting the opening of eliminating immigration barriers.
The Welfare System
The American welfare system is prone to abuse by immigrants. Critics of open policy preach the potential abuse of the welfare system as a considerable disadvantage. For instance, individuals can immigrate solely to get a stipend at the end of the month. The perception among the opponents of eliminating the barriers is that immigrants will aim at the welfare system than the prospect of economic opportunities. Consequently, it would lead to an increased tax burden and the fall of the United States. Proponents of the open policy claim that the claim has a bias in that current immigrants are more productive than the Americans themselves are. The American Culture
The elimination of immigration barriers will influence the existing American culture. Deemed as of value across the world, critics of the open policy claim that influx of immigrants is likely to lead to the cultural transformation of the American culture. Culture is an important aspect of society. However, the existing American culture is a function of both the white, black, Latin, Native Americans. Critics intelligently claim that the 20th century has different character traits from the earlier ones. It is not a function of a single race and thus erroneous to peg it as unique. On the contrary, proponents of open border claim that the American culture can undergo a better transformation by incorporating desirable aspects from the immigrants. The Doctrine of Freedom
The doctrine of freedom is another contentious aspect of the immigration policy. While some claim that, freedom should not have limitations to business activities, but rather expand to the immigration and emigration of people in the United States. If trading has no borders, so should the movement of people. Proponents of the elimination agenda claim that the barriers deny the freedom upon which the American Nation has its heritage founded. For instance, it is useless of value to have freedom of expression and association but deem it necessary to bar immigrants into the country. Like the laws of trading and economics, liberty deserves equal application too to all. On the contrary, critics perceive that freedom that they felt so important for inclusion in their constitution has to be internally only. Critics of opening boundaries rather cite growing corruption and insecurity if immigrants from such countries move to the States. The debatable nature of the doctrine of freedom is an important aspect of the argument.
Governance Role
The governance has a huge role it plays on the immigration policy. Throughout the decades, the congress and the presidents have had it swerving sides. For instance, the Refugee Act and the Dream Act are some of the laws that indicate the necessity for an open policy. However, successive administrations have been making changes according to their viewpoint on the matter. President George W. Bush amended the immigration policy in 1990, allowing immigrants to escape violence to settle and work in the U.S. When Barrack Obama became President, he allowed children brought to the United States able to work legally and were secure of deportation. The crux of the matter came with President Trump who put an end to the program. The changing stand of the administrations on the issue is of the essence in the argumentative paper.
