Elimination Complexity

Patients and families that are diagnosed with certain illnesses experience the effects of elimination complexities. Patients exhibiting resistance to medication suffer from prolonged illnesses and a deteriorating quality of life which leads to elimination complexity. Notably, some effects of elimination complexity include financial effects, psychological effects, disruption of leisure, social effects, helplessness, and lack of control, and disruption of work and school.

Financial Effects

The cost of caring for patients that are suffering from chronic conditions is prohibitively high. Consequently, adequate finances are required to cater to costs such as consultation, general treatment, employment of a caregiver, and transportation of the patient to and from the health facility.

Helplessness and Lack of Control

Chronically ill patients display signs of helplessness and lack of control. Families of patients suffering from chronic illnesses also exhibit signs of helplessness which manifest through guilt, anger, frustration, and loss. These indications of lack of control and helplessness differ from one patient to another depending on the extent of the severity of the disease. In exceptional cases whereby the extent is extensive, patients loose hope in their health.

Social Effects

Patients and their families are stigmatized by elimination complexities. In this instance, the patients and their families feel very different from normal people. The social effects of elimination complexities cause depression and stress on families of patients suffering from chronic diseases.

Disruption of Leisure, Work, and School

Elimination complexities cause the emergence of negative relationships at work and school for family members due to the condition of a chronic patient. Rising tensions and arguments often lead to strenuous relationships between the family members, friends, and the patient.

The Role of Nurses

Nurses play a vital role in providing emotional and psychological support to patients. Considering that nurses have the closest proximity to patients, they are charged with the responsibility of comprehending the patient emotional needs (Castellan et al., 2016). Subsequently, nurses are required to address patient needs sufficiently. What is more, nurse cheerlead the patients throughout the process of recovery. Hence, nurse a source of motivation for patients. Nurses assist patients through various emotional issues taking into account that they provide counseling.
