encounter with Maria a diabetic patient
My encounter with Maria, a diabetic patient, many years ago, has never escaped my memory. The woman had a severed left eye because her family could not afford enough insulin for her and her granddaughter, who also had diabetes. For love for her granddaughter, Maria had to skip insulin treatments to afford her granddaughter some, since getting enough for two was beyond their means.
My encounter with Maria stirred some compassion to help the needy in community access to healthcare services. Medicine is supposed to give hope to people like Maria, the reason I have worked hard all these years to achieve my academic dreams, and serve the world.
My passion for medicine was birthed during my high school years when I developed an intense curiosity to understand the human body. With resilience, I worked so hard in my High School to achieve a better grade to take me to the school of medicine, which I later joined and actively participated in various opportunities that would make me an all-around health care provider. My curiosity has enabled me to do research papers investigating neurodegenerative diseases that affect minority populations.
The more I study medicine, the more I become intrigued by the discipline, thus the passion for studying chiropractic medicine. By joining a chiropractic School, I would get more knowledge and skills, which would make me a competent physician. My neuroscience background places me in a better position to excel in the chiropractic school because I already have some knowledge prerequisite for the discipline.
Studying chiropractic will enable me to find an affordable alternative for minority populations like Maria, who are disadvantaged economically. While at this school, I intend to utilize my research abilities to come up with cheaper options to help patients receive better healthcare. Getting an opportunity to join a chiropractic school would also hone my skills to make me a more efficient doctor and fulfill my dreams of saving people’s lives.
