Norms are relevant for a group as they act as the guidelines for how group members should behave while in the group. According to your post, the norms give the expectations of group members where they create the values that each member should follow. Norms are also enabling team members to stick to their responsibilities which ensure that all individuals work under minimal supervision. The group leaders have an easy time managing a group with norms as compared to where the group lacks norms.
In your post, group norms are developed organically or formally which is the case in most organizations. It is true that where the norms are created without the knowledge of group members, the members are reluctant and create a hard time for the leader to control the members. The best way to form the norms is the formal way where all group members are included in the formation. This minimizes resistance by group members. Establishment of norms can be through voluntary compliance or by use of force to the team members. I support voluntary compliance as there is minimal force employed by team leaders to ensure that a task is completed.
Question 2
A team should embrace social behaviors as they enable better relationship which facilitates completion of projects. Task behaviors mostly focus on tasks in a group and the goals of the team. A team should have goals for it to be successful. Achieving the goals require cooperation of team members. A good relationship is created where we have social behavior since team members are concerned with the emotions of others. This indicates that a good leader should have the potential to balance the two for an effective team. This ensures that a good relationship is established as well as timely completion of tasks. What can happen if the task behavior exceeds the social behavior of a team?
