Ethical considerations
Ethical considerations are principles and values addressing questions regarding both bad and good human actions (Ross, 2012). Through ethics, reasons for various activities or people refraining from actions are established. These considerations have several benefits that assist humans in their day to day lives. Proper practice of ethical considerations it allows individuals to uphold honesty and integrity; therefore, one ensures that they do not make others feel shortchanged or unappreciated (Ross, 2012). Moreover, it builds openness as involved parties are willing to share all data received and results. These are among the benefits derived from upholding ethical considerations.
Technology refers to the utilization of scientific knowledge gathered through learning institutions or experience and practice using the information. Properly utilized, technology can pass information, which helps people change from evil tendencies. Using technology, people can be educated on various ethical behaviors, allowing them to become responsible members of the community. Multiple guidelines assist in the governing of professionals in social work that utilize technological advancements.
In business, collaborations tend to bring the best out of organizations as different minds are brought together to allow for a better life. The partnership between NASW with CSWE, ASWB, and CAWA established a task force spearheading technology standards in social work (NASW Publications Program, 2015). The task force maximized means through which social workers utilize technology; thus, providing a variety of standards such as informed consent, ethics, competence, and training, law, boundaries, electronic security, design and delivery of services, payments, dealing with technological issues, social media, electronic devices, records, utilizing search engines, and distance education and supervision.
The injustice chosen for addressing is human rights. Human rights are fundamental rights; all humans are granted naturally from birth until death. These rights apply to everyone despite race, physical appearance, age, and place of birth. There are various human rights such as freedom from torture and slavery, the right to life and liberty, the right to education and work, and freedom of expression and opinion, among others. The reasons cannot be taken away from individuals, but some can be restricted from practicing them adequately.
In the United States, human rights have been limited to a selected few with those from minority communities suffering (Donnelly, 2015). It is visible as the black community has been continuously facing abuse and discrimination from their bosses, co-workers, and other citizens. Perception of the Black Americans can be backdated to the slavery period, and the whites have found it difficult to accept them as equal human beings.
In 1921, the black community established Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Greenwood District, who was the center of the community’s success and better known Black Wall Street (Messer, Shriver & Adams, 2018). On 31st May the same year, Dick Rowland, a black individual, was accused of attempting to rape Sarah Page, a white woman. Despite the justice system existing, the white community was not willing to wait for investigations and court ruling. Two days of racial violence rocked the region resulting in 300 individuals dying, 800 being injured, and 35 city blocks being burnt (Messer, Shriver & Adams, 2018). As the blacks were outnumbered, mobs managed to loot, burn their homes, and businesses. The brutal acts resulted in the decline of the Black Wall Street as it rendered approximately nine thousand individuals homeless.
Recently, the case of George Floyd being brutally murdered by a police officer shows how the discrimination persists despite being 100 years after the incident of Black Wall Street. The actions signify how the lives of some humans are treated preciously while others are being treated as lesser beings (“How George Floyd Was Killed in Police Custody”, 2020). Implementing ethical considerations, the black community will appreciate the efforts as individuals will be careful of their actions, ensuring that they are justified.
Injustices occur daily, making the utilization of technology essential to ensure that the rest of the population is enlightened. In 1921 there was limited technology use making Television and stations the primary source of information. Therefore, it implies that the stations can twist the news depending on how they deem fit. Recently, smartphones have been introduced to the market and various social media platforms allowing people to share information on injustices. Technology advancement has enabled people to ensure that everyone will uphold equity.
In the case of George Floyd, a good Samaritan shared a video of the police officer brutally murdering the individual causing public uproar (“How George Floyd Was Killed in Police Custody”, 2020). Therefore, the pressure was exerted on the police force resulting in the officers being fired and tried. Adopting technology can be used to eliminate injustice since people can share videos of members of the community being harassed, resulting on the perpetrators to be brought to action. The various technological standards, such as boundaries and social media, can be fully utilized, ensuring that the officers and other offenders do not repeat the crimes. Unlike 1921 when there was a scarcity of technological advancements, using technology in this generation ensures that human rights issues are resolved amicably, and with the urgency it deserves.
