What is an ethos and how might understanding the root of the word “ethical” help us understand what it means?
Ethos, as used in ancient Greece and today, means character or a group of usual characteristics. Although ethical is mistaken to mean a plan that focuses on fairly imperfect moral values, in our case, it must cover all qualities in the character or ethos of writers and book lovers, whether they are referred to as decent or corrupt.
What, then, does Booth mean by ethical criticism?
According to Booth, ethical criticism is a theory that tries to define the encounters of a narrator’s character together with that of the reader. It makes clear those assessments that are understood whenever a listener accounts for stories about people in action.
How does what he says tie into some of the questions asked at the end of the bottom of the Lumen page?
“What kind of person is good?”
Both Lumen and Booth suggest that a good person is one who is considerate of other people’s feelings when making comments and their habits of character inflict little to no harm.
“What kind of person should I be?”
From both materials, I am urged to live an ethical life where I closely check how my behavior and conduct to other people is. I should also be that person who constantly does the right thing after what the right thing in any given situation should be.
“How should a good person behave in this situation?”
In a situation where you feel that a certain literacy work is unethical, a good person should always acknowledge the others’ work before stating the reasons for his opinions.

Why, in 1963, did Wayne Booth’s colleagues at the University of Chicago object to Paul Moses’s ethical appraisal of Huckleberry Finn?
Booth’s colleagues rejected his ethical appraisal because he desecrated the academic standards of impartiality. Some claimed that it was a classic and relevant novel and Paul could not recognize that. In his opinion, Booth feels that Paul’s ethical appraisal was one of the legitimate forms of literary criticism.
How, instead, did they think books should be evaluated?
Even after the discussion ended, Booth’s colleagues still thought that the novel was one of the great works of the victim which was much subtler than any idea or proposition derived from it. They argued that novels such as the Hackberry Finn were good literature that was vital to their lives in training students into readers and thinkers.

How do debates about censorship come into play here?
Historically, no administration or law court has a right to prevent the publication of any material unless it commits an illegal act. In the case of, it was the responsibility of the author to control the information he shared to avoid ethical criticisms from people like Paul Mosses. Part 3
What does Martha Nussbaum mean by utilitarian or Gradgrind economics (also sometimes referred to as instrumentalism) and why does it concern her?
The Gradgrind economist’s viewpoint argues that, if literature is dangerous and deserving of suppression, it is not a mere frill that has the potential to make a distinctive contribution to our public life. She adds that Gradgrind economics should focus more on measuring the wellbeing of a population and the nature of the rational processes of the good judge or legal thinker.
What, by contrast, does she/Mr. Does Gradgrind mean by “fancy”?
Fancy is the ability to imagine nonexistent possibilities, to see one thing one as and in another, and to endow a perceived form with a complex life.
