- 4. Would it be ethical if Facebook profited from selling your and others’ personal information to employers? Why or why not?
Ethical issues.
Ethical issues arise when a decision or activity is conflicting with the moral standards of a given society. In business, it is when a conflict about what is wrong or right arises and needs addressing. Both entities and individuals may get involved in these issues since their actions may be ethically questioned.
The answer.
It is not ethical for Facebook to profit from selling any personal information to employers. The social platforms like Facebook are for social affairs. If these details were to be availed to employers, it would work against individuals more than it would help them. If Facebook stipulates that it would be providing personal details of its users to employers, then considerations may be made, because its users will know what they are getting into from the word go. But if Facebook goes behind its users’ backs and sells these personal information to employers then it is unethical.
Personal information is not supposed to get to other parties unless the owner consents. It is breaching the privacy agreement and people may start to feel unsafe, or watched all the time, thus, the purpose of fun and connectivity with the world that the platform is to create will not work.
