ethical rules
The ethical rules of attorneys describe an acceptable set of regulations which guide their behavior while they are in line of duty. Such codes are specifically meant to ensure that attorneys pursue justice, follow the law and passionately advocate for the best interests of their clients. These codes comprise of confidentiality, competence, professional judgment and zealous representation (Akhtar, 2018). It is expected that an attorney should preserve his or her client’s confidence at all-times except in limited situations where the perceived confidence might bring serious injuries or have criminal intents. Concerning this scenario, the lawyer deserved termination because he chose to protect the confidence of his client despite being linked with serious consequences. Additionally, a lawyer is expected to avoid entering into any agreements with a client in situations where their interests differ. In this case, according to the professionalism of the lawyer, it is clear that his interests are not similar to the ones of his client. However, the attorney failed to undertake professional judgment and protected the client. Lack of competency is also displayed by the lawyer since he failed to listen to the advice from the outside firm which was meant to ensure that justice is served. Basing on this incidence, the outside firm entrusted this lawyer with this case but he neglected it by choosing to protect his clients’ interests.
Statutory criminal laws prohibits unwanted acts which imply that proof is needed to ascertain that a party is guilty. The lawyer engaged in participatory offences whereby he helped the client to avoid legal prosecution. Being an at-will employee, the lawyer deserved termination for good reasons.
