Ethics in education
Ethics are a system of principles, values, morals, virtues that guide people in acceptable actions and thoughts. As a student, understanding and appreciating the importance of ethics in the capacity of personal leadership is paramount as act as the guideline to sound decisions. Ethics in education are critical as they set the basis for academic integrity and what is acceptable in the context of education hence protecting the interest of me as a student and those of my educators.
Understanding the value of something or someone and treating such with respect is one of the obligations I have as a student. In this regard, I ought to be respectful to my seniors and educators, including professors, to maintain a positive relationship that breeds mutual benefits. For example, I ought to be kind and professional when addressing my professors in a show of respect for their position and to be. Moreover, showing a sense of responsibility for actions and behaviors and facing up the consequences makes me more ethical. For example, since I have an obligation towards my professor, I have the responsibility to meet the deadlines by submitting papers on time to avoid penalization by the professor. Honesty is critical in the context of academics and defines one of the ethical challenges faced by students and examiners. However, it is possible to practice honesty; for example, by ensuring that I do not cheat in exams and assignment, I will be promoting ethical behavior and actions. Trust is the central in ethics and imperative both in education and personal leadership. To maintain trust, for example, I would ensure that I monitor my behavior and actions to ensure that I do not violate the university’s policies and personal agreements. Fairness is equally essential, and people expect to be treated with impartiality, which further promotes ethics. For example, I should ensure that no professors unreasonably favors me over other students regardless of the personal benefits.
In conclusion, ethics are essential codes that guide people’s behavior and students. In education and personal leadership, ethics take center stage to promote fairness, responsibility, trust, respect, and honesty.
