Ethnomedical Systems
The United States is home to various multi-ethnic societies who have different needs to hold and appreciate their native cultural beliefs. For instance, in 2006,12.5percent of the total population represented foreigners born in the United States. Therefore, there is need of understanding varied healthcare systems due to the increasingly vital for medical personnel as the patient population consist of both wide-ranging healthcare beliefs system and ethnically diverse people. The ethnomedical system lacks the division between body and mind. Biomedicine is the study of the human body through a theoretical perspective where modern drugs are used while Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is a herbal product that aims at restoring full health to a body (Singh, Panda & Satapathy, 2020). The major difference between the two types of ethnomedical systems is the biomedicine system is more expensive since it uses modern technology in restoring human health while TCM uses herbal which can be acquired at a low cost. Additionally, biomedicine required deeper knowledge to restore human health which is not the case with TCM. Finally, the similarity between the two ethnomedical systems is that they both aim at restoring human health and there are consequences in case of wrong medication for both types.
