Evaluating data and statistics models – scientific writing assignment
Goal – learn about data presentation, evaluation and reliable resources
Instructions:
- Watch the video: “Video for scientific writing – Pearson Presents: Unwritten Ep. 3. Statistics” (or use this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjJjVoW1tv8&feature=youtu.be )
- Use the information in the video to answer the questions. Some answers are found in the video and some are your interpretation of the video content.
- Keep your answers short and to the point
- Assignment files format
- Only Microsoft Word file formats will be accepted.
- Font – 12 point, Times New Roman
- Double-spacing.
- One-inch margins
- each answer should be in separate paragraphs.
- Each answer should not be more than one page

- This is individual assignment – you can discuss your answers with your peers, but the document should be your own
- You should answer in your own words
- If there will be concerns with your paper because of information and/or ideas appear to be taken directly (copied) from outside source a report on plagiarism will be submitted to the Dean of Students Office and an academic penalty will be assigned after the review and decision of the Dean of Students Office.
- You are asked to search the net for examples of data presentation. You will need to insert graph/table from website and list the website from which you took it. Do not present just the link.
- Each question and sub-questions should be answered separately. Do not write one long paragraph that includes all the information combined. Such presentation will not be graded and the grade for the paper will be zero.
- To avoid any last-minute technical issues, do not delay uploading your paper close to the deadline. No extension will be given to students that
Questions:
- According to Dr. Gould, what questions you should ask when reviewing data set or statistical model (give at least 3 examples)? Why is it important to ask those questions?
- What is the importance of having reliable data resources? How can you tell that a source is reliable one?
- look at the following link and answer the following questions:

- is this link a reliable source? How do you know?
- select a state in the US or a country in the world and look at the graph:
– what are the labels of the x-axis and the y-axis?
– was the COVID 19 curve flattened in the state/country you selected? (copy the graph into your document and give the URL for the graph)
– find another graph online (does not have to be about the COVID-19), present it and write shortly if the source is reliable (according to Dr. Gould’s presentation.
