Evolution of IT Security
Information technology (IT) security or cybersecurity are the techniques of protecting computers, programs, networks, and data from unauthorized attacks aimed for exploitation. With threats increasing over the years, their complexity also keeps on rising. Traditional security is no longer compatible with the threats emerging in the age of digitalization. Thinking back 30 years, IT security was simple as there were very few devices to protect. Today, there is a sharp rise in the use of digital technologies in all workplaces. This is being driven by the need to enhance productivity in businesses. However, this has led to many cybercriminals finding ways to get entries to the enterprise networks. IT security has evolved and become more complex. This essay will discuss the advancements made in IT security over time.
Data security is still a significant concern since when it first emerged. In 1980, data security became a primary concern following the formation of computer clubs, which led to the emergence of the first virus through errors done. The first computer virus was found in 1986 in a floppy disk (Dulhare et al., 2019). After the emergence of viruses, programmers were confused and concerned about the risks they were facing. Countermeasures had to be developed. With this, data security began to be a critical aspect in the industries and different fields. Data security ensures that unauthorized access to PCs, databases, and sites is countered.
In the 1990s, efforts towards ensuring cybersecurity made progress. Strides were made to block the unauthorized access into the computer systems and warnings and memos issued to all the computer staff to be aware of the viruses. The present-day data security is developing, and cybercriminals keep increasing. Breaches are becoming more sophisticated than before. The security features implemented five years ago are no longer compatible with the threats that are currently the main concern for the programmers and computer users. Viruses keep evolving and thus the need to advance the countermeasures to ensure IT security is maintained.
IT security has proved to play a critical role in the technological advancements being made. In the past, IT security was not a significant concern to the investors and developers as there was minimal use of technologies. Today, changes and advancements are what defines the generation. Every day new projects and technological improvements are being discovered. With this positively impacting lives in the development sector, the security of the systems is still a primary concern for developers. Recent attacks such as NotPetya ransomware have highlighted how cyber-attacks can cause chaos (Mihaela-Sorina et al., 2020). Development in multinational enterprises was put at risk. This shows how IT security is important in all the organizations that have embraced the use of technologies. Companies and organizations must pay and invest in IT security to ensure the safety of their technologies.
IT security is front and center of the new world. Data security is a major concern for almost everybody in the world. Businesses today are mostly run by technologies, and all these advancements require the security of the services. Data encryption, masking, erasure, and data backup are some of the important ways people use in data protection. IT security is becoming an important aspect and is the center of innovations being made today. It is being built into new technologies and devices from the outset. Given the increase in cybercrime, business can no longer afford to be reactive anymore. Security is key and is a necessity in all businesses that have embraced technological advancements,
In conclusion, IT security was not a significant concern in the past since technology had not been made an essential aspect of the development. Today IT security is key and a necessity in many enterprises. The growing era of computers and the technological advancements being made have developed much interest in safeguarding data. IT security is becoming more important for businesses, companies, and any person to ensure data security.
