Expand the House
- Expanding the House would make the members of Congress more representative of the American Republic. As the number of people continues to increase hence, should the number of their Representation. The gap between the representatives and the members of the public is huge, and this means that they cannot understand the needs of each of them. This problem requires the expansion of Congress to include more representatives. Expanding the House would help to reduce the bridge that is current presently between the public and the representatives. The representatives would be able to understand the needs of the American Public since they are close to each other. Furthermore, when the House is expanded, it will provide an opportunity for people from other minority groups to take up some of the positions. These individuals will ensure that their colleagues with whom they belong to the same minority groups are well represented to ensure that they fulfill their needs. In the long run, the Representation of the American public will increase because of the expanded House, which will be close to them. Therefore, their needs will be easily understood and be met by their leaders.
- On the other hand, expanding the House would make the members of the Congress less representative of the American public. Most of the members elected to represent the American public have their interests. Therefore, these individuals will not be able to focus on the needs of the American Public. In the event the number of members of Congress is increased, the American public will likely be less represented. There will be more members within the Congress who will be there to satisfy their interests. Also, electing more members of Congress would result in less Representation of the American Public because there will be more needs that will be presented to the House. Due to the high number of these needs, it will be hard for the House to deal with all of them. Therefore, some of them will have to be left out, and this means that some of the members of the American public will not be well represented.
- Expanding the number of the members of Congress would affect the influences that party leaders have on how the congressmen and women within their party vote. In the first instance, increasing the number of Congress means that there will be a high number of majorities. Therefore, in this case, when the majorities increase, the majority of leaders will have more power, and they will use it to influence their congressmen and women to vote for what they want. Also, increasing the number of Congress will give the party leaders more power and which they may use to influence the congressmen and women to vote for a particular law. For example, when there 5000 congress members, it will be easy to change a law over since it is easy to reach the required number. However, an increased number of congressmen and women would result in a reduced number of the minority. This issue will affect the minority since the minority leaders will have a little influence on their congressmen and women. This issue will affect them since they cannot have the power to vote against certain laws that could have been presented by the members of the majority.
