SUBJECT: Explanatory memo on plagiarism.
Dear Professor,
I have read the school policy on plagiarism and understood the consequences that one may face when found with this act. Plagiarism is defined as taking another person’s work or ideas and passing them down as your own. Various forms characterize it, and they include; direct plagiarism, self-plagiarism, mosaic and accidental plagiarism. It is a crime punishable in a court of law, and also students may get penalized if a professor finds out that the assignments are plagiarized.
Using another person’s work is unethical, and students should ensure ethical morals when doing their assignments by promoting honesty in their work. When using another person’s work as a source, it is important to ensure proper citing of the sources. There are different types of citation formats that a student should use to citing the sources of their work, and they include Modern Language Association (MLA), American Psychological Association (APA), Chicago citation style, Harvard referencing, and many others.
I would advise the students to follow the plagiarism policy rules to avoid such acts that may lead to penalization or even get expelled from school. When you respect other people’s work, it is a sign of appreciating what they have done for society. Writing from your words means that you understand what you have learned, and even the Professor will acknowledge the efforts and grade your work accordingly.
Let us all promote ethical morals and shun injustices promoted by acts of plagiarism and other forms of piracy. I appreciate the chance given to write an explanatory note on the meaning and consequences of plagiarism.
