Extremism
After reviewing the lesson and required readings, what is your definition of domestic extremism, and how does it differ from terrorism?
Domestic extremists can describe as violence against the civilian population or the infrastructure of a given nation. These attacks are propelled by civilians of the given nation to intimidate, coerce, or influence the government into agreeing to specific policies. An organization referred to as RAND undertakes national security responsibility by carefully researching and helping the government prevent and mitigate terrorist activities (2019). Domestic extremism is different from terrorism because terrorism involves citizens from another nation attacking a different country to pass a message across or settle their differences While domestic extremism involves citizens of the same nation launching attacks in an attempt to pass across a message mostly to the government.
Describe the range (or spectrum) of domestic right-wing extremist groups?
Private right-wing extremist groups are formed within a nation in a bid to oppose the government and try to push their policies. To counter these groups, the government needs to have a keen listening ear to their grievances and not dismiss them but find solutions for them. The government needs to come up with ways of reducing the social structure that influences the creation of such groups to emerge and flourish. These endeavors can be compared to those going on in the world in an attempt to end Islamic radicalism.
Are there commonalities among White Supremacists and Neo-Nazi groups?
White Supremacists are people who believe that race is inherently superior to all the other races. They are also of the view that since their race is more superior, they ought to have control over all the other races. The Neo-Nazi group, on the other, are people who came about as a result of the post-World War Two. It is a social, militant, and political movement that seeks to revive the ideologies held by the Neo-Nazism.
Their ideologies include promoting hatred and attacking the minority groups in the community.
These two groups are very similar in many ways (Bruza, 2020). First, both tend to promote what they believe is right according to them, and they do not consider other people in the community. The two are self-centered and only fight for their interest; for example, the White Supremacists fight to remain superior and dominate the nation. In contrast, the Neo-nazists fight the minority groups to ensure that they are the most dominant and feared group. Lastly, all these groups have a background of hostility and promote a culture of hate and racism, where they only consider their perceptions right. Any person who opposes ends up being their enemy.
What are some of the causes of extreme racism in the United States based on the readings?
The history of hate in America is a comprehensive study that provides a complicated and difficult period in America. It consists of racism and violence among the hate groups that led to many deaths and casualties. Some of the reasons behind the extreme racism in America include; Most white Americans believe that they are a superior race and that their in-groups do not include the Black Americans. They give for this is their fraught history, which included racial segregation, which separated the black community from the white community. Another cause of extremist racism in the US is a religious conflict. Most of the Islamic extremists joined the radical groups in an attempt to get at the Christian communities’ siting disregard of their religion, among other factors. They felt like they needed a platform to be hard and thought the best way to do this is by attacking Christians and causing havoc.
The importance of music to right-wing Domestic extremist groups
The Right-wing radicals were motivated by a number of district ideologies during their operations, which included the ideologies of neo-Nazism and those of the white supremacy groups. They also had a great passion for music. They used music a soother during g the times of war, and they needed to calm down before and after an attack. The most popular music used was white power, which became the most common and effective strategy to use over time. They used it during recruitment, where they employed the use of radical cloak beliefs within the lyrics (Jones, 2020). The radical groups use music to propagate their ideologies and ensure their message reaches as many people as possible. Most of the Radicals attribute they are joining the group to the music they listened to, which encouraged them to join and know about the extremist ideologies. The choice of lyrics was persuasive and enticing, thus the reason for this.
