FACT SHEET
As a healthcare professional, providing expertise to the government concerning the importance of including the healthcare insurance and accessibility in the agenda for legislation is necessary. Generally, with access to timely and appropriate ambulatory care, patients are able to prevent illness, control acute episodes, or manage chronic conditions to avoid exacerbating or complicating those conditions (Access to Health Services, n.d). All these can be achieved only if people are insured since healthcare insurance can help patients avoid being stuck with large medical bills as well as help them access the care they need to improve or manage their health. For that reason, insurance programs are viewed to be the inception of better healthcare services and a requirement for a regular source of healthcare, since this policy increases the effectiveness in the early screening of the disease, detection and prevention (Healthcare Reform: What It Is and Why We Need It, n.d).
Therefore, considering the role of a nurse in agenda setting for healthcare insurance and accessibility issues, providing stronger education concerning the importance of healthcare insurance that will be given to the people will be essential, since this will help legislators make informed decisions, regarding how to persuade other stakeholders on the benefits of implementing healthcare insurance to the population. Also, being the be the voice of reason will be necessary, since there are many things about the Affordable Care Act that have improved access to care and quality of care, therefore, I must discuss why those things are important and why they need to stay from a cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness perspective (The Role of Nurse Practitioners in Health Care Reform, 2016).
