Fashion
Fashion is associated with clothes and footwear in a certain period. In simple terms, fashion is basically what is trending in the present time. However, the expiry time for a certain trend depends on how well it has been received in the market, at that particular time. Fashion is highly influenced by the happenings of that present time. For example, From the 1920s to the 1990s, fashions mirrored the tenor of each decade and exhibited changes in society as the mode of clothing and accessories evolved with time.
Fashion has evolved in a tremendous way which is evident as the fashion industry is turning towards green-fashion. Today’s age has embraced clothes and footwear recycling and sustainable fashion. Second-hand clothing has become a thing now, unlike there before. Stalls selling second-hand clothes have increased in number not to mention that some African countries depend on second-hand clothes. Turning to sustainable fashion will better live as people appreciate the idea of recycling textile waste to produce new clothes that are becoming “the new normal” in the fashion industry.
Fashion is more than just trends in clothes and footwear, and more than just an entertainment thing. Fashion is a source of identity for certain groups of individuals. Public figures and more so in the entertainment industry, people need to trend in all things including clothing. By identifying with the current trend it keeps these individuals attractive to their audience. However, fashion has become a controversial topic more so in African countries. The current trends are appreciating exposure to a bigger percentage of one’s body, which is termed as indecency in most homes. Since young people are most influenced by fashion, a rift between parents and their children has increased in the name of fashion.
