FASHION AND DESIGN
Non-verbal communication refers to a process by which meaning is conveyed without the necessary use of words either written or spoken. The message conveyed is in terms of gestures and posture.
Dressing code especially to the first impression it conveys more than one can speak and all the messages converted into statements. It is a dubious fact that a person will the other in just 30 seconds by a first look. According to Adam S et al (2003), he argues that overall appearance will speck where one heads to or works. The attire one is putting on is a method of asking the attention of the other party. Dressing code also plays a crucial role in the identification of culture because the different culture has different design code. It is a major means of conserving people’s culture and religion. Strong mode of dressing automatically indicates a sense of professionalism to people who are dominating business. Clothes can be basest or finest friend depending on what one chose to wear. With poor dressing, the self-confidence, competence, credibility, and professionalism are key stake when the first impression is failed.
Dress code is as important as it dictates the kind of profession one has occupied. It also depicts the kind of company one is working with. While choosing the kind of dressing code one need to consider his/her profession, culture and the purpose. According to Blumer, H(1969) identification of right attire based on the profession is not only challenging but also demanding. With modern times we live, choosing attire for any profession is easy as they were already established by our ancestors, for example, engineers will wear aprons an overall. Dress plays an important role since one will easily identify a doctor and hence the communication becomes easy (Blumer.1969). By good dressing code, one can unlock more doors as compared to a poorly dressed person.
The five senses of channels of communication system are the following; sight example to see a blouse, a shirt, and a pant when buying them ;touch for example is by touching to know the material such as silk, leather and wool; sense of hearing example crunching of a cloth will indicate it’s a trench coat; a sense smell example is t-shirt which smells comfort and finally the taste indicates that taste for fashion will have more to do with one’s taste for certain styles.
Slutwalk in South Africa was a complaint to the public especially to men for violating omen right to clothing. Basing with the kind of cloth the women were wearing when being raped. According to men they suggested that women were raped because of wearing a mini skirt in public. Also, that woman in a taxi was assaulted of seducing men thus they stuck their fingers into the girl’s vagina while calling her suttee main theme is not about the raping but it’s all about the kind of the clothes they are supposed to wear. Basing on the argument that was made by some protestant claiming that they were not raped because of the short skirt but because of men’s libidinal desires. In real sense women who are a slut, it is their nature to desire sex all the time.
In South Africa, women were not fighting to be called slut by men through judging them with the kind of clothing (Schutte 2008). Mainly was short skirt worn by women of South Africa? Basing on the statement given by taxi driver and hawkers. The kind of clothes one wear is his/her choice and is not meant to seduce anyone. This is because even the young girl at the age of ten was raped by his dad without considering the type of clothe she wore by then.
In the case of Saudi women were denied the right to wear clothes of their choice. Being forced to cover all their body with long black rob called “abaya” and top of that they should cover all the body leaving a slit-like space to allow them to see. This followed by the committee which so that men were not working well with the type of dressing code of women. They found a solution which was to change the dressing code of women. They were claiming that women have sexy eyes which all the time seduces men preventing from working well. But this is not true that women seduce men with clothing rather than men lust.
Both two cases above are all discussing women dressing code. This is a barrier to permeating of any fashion design especially those meant for ladies. The solution is not the kind of clothes women are to wear but men should control their lustrous behavior.
Short skirt in South Africa is a good example of clothing that men miscommunicated by thinking that it aimed to seduce them. It showed that women who wore a short skirt were a slut and deserved to be persecuted by the perpetrators. In the case of Arabia, the solution to curb sexy eyes from women and to solve the problem of men’s working, a long black rob was the only type of dress women can wear. This inhibits new fashion for most women as it is the law to wear them.
Shredded jeans are a rugged extravagance of fraying and squiggled from knee each knee where an irregular hole that is patched from behind by a rectangle stretcher than sterilized gauze.it is mostly worn by youth at the age of 21 years (HonigmAn, A.F. 2015). While pre-shredded is a complete jean which has not yet be been squiggled or cut. It is in its original form, that means it does not have any deformation.
