1. Several women in the US have been victims and fatal casualties of state-sanctioned violence in workplaces, public space and residential areas. Their problem is less focused upon since contemporary society has no slate and frame of understanding in which to perceive and explain their problem.
2. Michelle Cusseaux, Tanisha Anderson and Aura Rosser are examples of black women in America who have been victims of state violence with little public knowledge (Crenshaw).
3. Women’s liberation groups, civil rights organizations, progressive members of congress and learning institutions all represent a cross-section of the society that doesn’t have an exhaustive understanding of the police violence against black women in America (Crenshaw).
4. Black women in America are suffering from institutional racism, and most people don’t care since their problem is addressed in terms of racism and sexism only. The legal institutions that can protect them fear that they could be beneficiaries of specialized treatment if their overlapping issues were treated like they are.
5. Kimberle Henshaw feels states that the judge in the Emma DeGraffenreid case decided to throw out her case since there was no frame in which to interpret it. According to her, this is a crack in the law that does not cover intersection (Crenshaw).
6. The judge in Emma’s case felt that by ruling in her favour, it would make her enjoy double protection benefits as a black person and as a woman. The court felt that racism wasn’t an issue in the car manufacturer that hired black men, and sexism wasn’t an issue since the company hired ladies (Crenshaw).

Second Prompt.

1. Activists and pressure groups are coming up with slogans and songs to encourage people to keep victims of police discrimination in their minds. However, their approach is not exhaustive and needs concerted efforts from all sections of society.
2. The African American Policy Forum decided to come up with their initiative, Say Her Name, to speak up on behalf of discriminated black women whose tribulations are intersectional. The initiative took place at rallies, complexes, meetings and conferences (Crenshaw).
3. Abby Dobson made a song that chants the words “Say her name” over again to create an emotional touch with the problem of intersectionality in the mistreatment of black women in America (Crenshaw).
4. Scholars have decided to come up with terms that can be used to refer to the problem in efforts to create more awareness across society. The efforts are meant to separate the different social problems while noting their overlapping mechanisms such as racism and sexism.
5. Kimberle Henshaw highlights judicial issues such as the Emma DeGraffenreid case. She hopes to create a frame of understanding for the current society to avoid misunderstandings and legal ambiguities like the ones Miss DeGraffenreid went through in her lawsuit (Crenshaw).
6. Kimberle Henshaw came up with the word intersectionality to describe the overlapping issues of social injustice that several people were going through in America. Specifically, she focused it on the social discrimination that black women experienced in America, such as the Emma DeGraffenreid case that was thrown out for lack of understanding by the judges (Crenshaw).
