Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
Frankenstein is a novel whose other is Mary Shelley. The novel’s structure gives the reader a chance of drawing referencing between the protagonist and the Demi-god of Greek with the various demonstration that is very widespread across the novel in support of her grounds. In real relief, it is hard for a person to visualize the scenarios that their respective families, parents, and guardians were opposed to people like those, people who are expected to be providing love and care the greatest. Despite all of that, the creature did not experience any struggling when visualizing various situations, more specifically after being forsaken by his creator because of pusillanimity and revulsion. By failing to recognize his innocence and unpretentious character’s creation, Frankenstein is playing the role of providing negligence and also agonizing the monster in which he only puts his focus on its image (Haynes, 29). Consequently, he is compelled in rejecting his masterpiece since it is the way of humans and his features were absolutely distinct from his own. This situation makes the doctor be the monster. The personal experience of Mary Shelley and the period of time which she lived had some influences in her writing of Frankenstein novel where she utilizes the monster as an echo of her own fights in contrast to social norms which depicts the encounters that women tackled as inferior citizens which are further portrayed through science as a danger of getting too copious knowledge.
Mary sees herself as an outcast who needs to find a sense of safety for her own and not listening to the view of others, and she needs to look for a sense of emotional safety since he relations with her father is not stable, who does not speak to her. Outcast is established during the three days before Mary Shelley started writing Frankenstein, putting more focus on the sensitive associations between her, Claire, Percy Shelly, Lord Byron his medic, John Polidori. The appearance of the creation of victor was grisly. Even though the traits were human, the figure of the monster was not appealing to the maker. The monster was enormous, had yellow color skin that did not even cover its whole body, the lips were black and had white eyes that were watery. The appearance of the monster was going to be a threat to the people, compelling them to give him a treatment like an outcast. Wonderful, demo-god! The yellow color skin hardly covered the huge muscles and the arteries below; the monster’s hair was shinning black and flowy; it had a white tooth-like pearly; nevertheless, this copiousness only developed a more awful contrast with the eyes, that was like the more or less similar color as the glaucous, his wrinkle appearance and straight-backed lips (Haynes,45). The experience of the monster with the people was not favorable. When he attempted to start the interaction between him and the people, he was stormed and compelled to escape. The encounter between him and the people compelled him to ignore the direct interaction as humans. He then comes to a conclusion to stay away from the sight of the humans for his safety. His attempt of avoiding human interaction compelled him to search for shelter in the concealed areas where people are not likely to pay visitation. Later, the monster requested victor to create another monster though female as his partner. He also made a promise to him to be living away from the reach of humans and ignore any interaction between them. The theme of creation is at the epicenter of the novel. The novel reveals how he is able to create a monster and give life to it after obtaining scientific knowledge of life at Ingolstadt. Victor is playing the role of god (29). Victor’s aspirations to create life and imitating his own creations become a failure. The monster he created compels him to create a partner. When victor opposes, he becomes the real monster.
The women writer as Frankenstein examines the importance of Mary Shelley being a writer’s daughter and the ways it adds up to the writing of Frankenstein, which they gamble as her, Mary Shelley, envisaging herself as the monster. Mary Shelley is visualized as the Monster for many anxieties that the authors brought up in the article such as qualms, uncertainties, and unavoidable hindrances of a young woman writing in the 19th century. Elizabeth Lavenza an orphan child that was taken by the family of Frankenstein raised together with Victor Frankenstein. Later, she becomes the wife of Victor and is murdered by the minster on their honeymoon vacation. Elizabeth takes care of the children and performs the basic chores of the home with no complain when the mother who adopted her died. Elizabeth grows an acquiescent attitude in which she takes care of Victor and the whole family, in addition to her sorrow and stabilizing the home. She attempts to hide her dissatisfaction and continue to be strong for the family. Elizabeth also demonstrates inactiveness will waiting victor to marry her, who spends much of his time to pursue his own preferences before coming into a commitment her in marriage. These traits of Elizabeth strengthen the antagonistic traits of Victor in the story. Elizabeth is staying at home, as Victor studies at the university, starting his project to create a monster. As Elizabeth is at home sorrowing and attempting to keep those around her happy including Victor, he is getting insane as he comes into a realization that he can’t control the monster he created. Victor does not confess to the murder because he is the one who created the monster who killed William (Shelley 25). The prosecutor brings witnesses against Justine to prove that she is guilty of the murder. They were trying to prove that she was out the whole night when the killing occurred, she was found was the body of the dead was, she was hysterical when seeing the body and when Justine was questioned about the murder, she gave a confusing answer. Justine believed that she had no enemies and believed that the behavior and character she ad would free her in such a situation. Elizabeth defends Justine because she was like a mother to William. Elizabeth applauds the character of Justine and states that the entire family of Frankenstein loved her. Justine was sentenced because there were many pieces of evidence that were against her and she had not enough witnesses to defend her.
Mary Shelley breathed at a period of time of social, political, and scientific uprising and her conception of Frankenstein. In the 18th century, there was the secularization of knowledgeable arrogances towards science and empathetic of the physical universe. Scientists designed gradually multifaceted tools for use in the exploration. The monster is the creation of Victor Frankenstein, constructed from older parts of the body and peculiar chemicals, animated by perplexing glimmer. He is eight feet tall and extensively strong but his mind was like of that if a newborn, innocent child. Left by his creator and demented, he attempts to blind and interact with the community, only to be rejected and attacked. When he looks at the mirror, he comes into the realization of his physical dreadfulness, a feature of his image that facades the community to his previous gentle nature. The monster kills the younger brother of his creator Victor to revenge on him (Shelley, 92). After victor destroyed is working on the other monster (female monster) that was purposed to slow down the wildness of the monster, the monster decided to kill Victor’s best friend and later, he killed his new wife (Lloyd, 92). As Victor is having an unconditional hatred towards his own creation, the monster demonstrates that he not completely an evil creature. The articulate narration of happenings by the monster as mention by Victor shows his astonishing responsiveness and kindheartedness. The monster is seen helping some group of poor peasants and saving who was drowning, but due to his outward features, he was paid by battering and distaste. The consequences of outfox of the logical, of the persistent, morally indistinct pursuing scientific knowledge are shown in the novel. Victor’s desired to know more, to get scientific knowledge regardless of the costs, dangers, and consequences. Afterward, the hatred between him and his creature led to challenges, losses, and troubles which he constantly experienced. He forms a notion that the difference that exists between ignorance and knowledge as the difference between light and dark. For example, he says, “life and death appeared to me ideal bounds, which I should first breakthrough, and pour a torrent of light into our dark world.” (Shelley 34). Victor enjoys the probability that “new species would bless [him] as its creator and source; many happy and excellent natures would owe their being to [him].” (Shelley 34)
Conclusion
It is therefore important to conclude that the monster is an atrocity because Victor Frankenstein was playing the role of God by giving a creature life and fail to take care, manage, and control the monster. The story of the other is therefore in various aspects like the modern Prometheus. Mary Shelley uses many instances including playing the role of being God and many costs, dangers, and consequences of deception. Because of this reason, the characters are compelled to facing their excrescence due to their deeds. Hence, the novel is trying to teach the reader the consequences of much knowledge and also wisdom that that is beyond reach.
