From working in human resources to being a research assistant
In three years, I worked from lead office assistant to an executive assistant for the dean of faculties at Texas A&M University, where I developed an interest in industrial-organizational psychology. My drive to achieve success comes from my father, who, before his passing, actively encouraged me to better myself. His death in May 2020, coupled with the challenges posed by the global pandemic, has pushed me to want to live up to the family name – hence my desire to pursue a Masters in what I consider myself to be good at Industrial/Organizational Psychology. A chance to pursue a Master’s Degree in organizational psychology from your esteemed institution will set me on the path to achieving personal goals while assisting organizations in implementing diversity policies in their hiring programs, decrease occupational stress, burnout, and turnover. A Master’s degree from [insert institution here] will enable me to pursue my interests in industrial-organizational psychology and put to practice my knowledge on political science and experience in working in a diverse environment to improve hiring processes.
My ambition to master ways to improve workplaces and hiring processes is a culmination of my academics and work experiences. I graduated with a degree in political science from [Insert university name here] with a [Insert GPA score here]. While working at Texas A&M University, I enrolled for a degree in industrial-organizational psychology at the University of Florida and graduated in November 2019 with a 4.0 GPA. Working as a lab manager and study coordinator, I helped assess the correlation between burnout, mood, and occupational stress. As stated in my resume, I am currently a research assistant in analyzing interviews on quantitative and qualitative individual differences to determine their reliability. Earlier on, I worked as an undergraduate research assistant at the Texas Disease Diagnosis Lab, where I managed medical and supply processes. As recent global health concerns threaten the workplace, I am curious about how human resources will adapt to employees’ needs and how the work environment changes will influence employees. With skills in the meta-analysis, research, policy development, and human resource management, a master’s degree from your institution will empower me to research ways to reshape work norms and ethics, which will change as organizations adopt the new normal.
My work experience spans from working in human resources to being a research assistant. I have an expansive knowledge of payroll, budgeting, and production management from A&M University, where I worked in various capacities. My understanding of political science and psychology was particularly useful in leading the Continuing Education, and Professional Development functions in the University’s nursing department. The skills horned in the three years at the University helped me complete a report on the university’s re-accreditation report to ANCC (American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation). My interest in research grew into hiring processes and the conscious and unconscious bias within the hiring processes. I believe I will make a positive and valuable addition to members of your institution’s alumni. Your certification and my hard work, research skills and ambitions and experience will enable me to achieve my goals of leading the organization/industrial psychology, bring much-needed change to human resources in the wake of a changing working environment, and bring honor to my father’s memories and his desire to see me achieve this goal.
